Tony was born on a ranch in La Leona, TX to Joseph and Josephina Atkinson; he came from a large family…Tony was the 9th of 10 children.
Being born on a ranch must have infiltrated his blood, because Tony was a true “American Cowboy”. There wasn’t an animal he couldn’t ride or rope, or a piece of equipment he couldn’t operate. No matter what job or task he did there were no shortcuts or halfway doing the job for Tony, because he was a perfectionist, he believed if you’re going to do something then do it right the first time.
Tony spent most of his life working on ranches, operating heavy equipment and driving 18 wheelers, but his first passion was rodeoing. He loved hunting, gardening, dancing, playing his accordion and singing…music was his second passion.
He was always up for a party; if there wasn’t one going on somewhere he would throw one himself. Tony never met a stranger and was always the life of the party, he was loved by everyone that knew him.
Tony was an unforgettable man and will be missed by many!
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Alexandro Atkinson, Frank Atkinson, Gilbert Atkinson, Joe Atkinson; sisters Modesta Weaver, Josephine Flores, Anita Munoz, Beatrice Chappa; sons Robert Atkinson, Roy Lee Atkinson, Tony Atkinson Chappa; first wife and mother of his children Tommie Carr Atkinson.
