Ann Metzger Scott, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home in College Station, Texas after an extended illness with her daughter and long-term care giver Sandy at her side. Ann was born December 19, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio to Lillian Johnson and Raymond William Metzger. She was married to Bernard Scott for thirty years, having four children: Karen, Bob and spouse Laurie, Sandy and spouse Dave, and Susie and spouse Cris. Ann loved life and Ann loved her family. Her home was always open to any extended family member who needed her. Devoted to all her children, Ann would not accept defeat when her oldest, Karen, was diagnosed with a rare muscular disease. Mom empowered Karen to repeatedly beat doctors’ life expectancy predictions and advice on what she couldn’t do. Bound to a wheelchair and with limited physical strength, Karen received an M.S. in Education, married, had three children, and taught in Houston schools for thirty years. Another example is her willingness to adopt twin baby girls, born premature, nurturing them into the beautiful women they are today.
Children grown, Ann moved to Houston and started an interior decorating business, M & A Interiors. No couch, table or picture in your home was safe from her discerning eye. “This room has so much potential. Here’s what I would do…,” she would loudly proclaim. You never wondered what she was thinking. Her mischievous nature made her the life of the party. One time, she attempted to sneak up on middle-school Bob, who was bent over cleaning the pool, to push him in but ended up in the pool herself with Bob fleeing in fear of Mom’s wrath for ruining her bouffant hairdo. She is preceded in death by her parents and all three of her siblings: Jean Metzger Binns Rateliff, William Metzger, Robert Metzger, and her daughter Karen Scott Ponce. In addition to her children, Ann is survived by ten grandchildren and eleven wonderful great grandchildren who are now the life of the party.
