Andrea Austin Harrell

Andrea Austin Harrell, 85, of College Station, Texas, passed away on January 8, 2025.

Andrea was born in Houston, Texas in 1939 to Winona and Tom Austin. She grew up in the Afton Oaks area of Houston and graduated from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School. She briefly attended Sam Houston State University before meeting her husband Robert “Joel” Harrell. 

Andrea and Joel were married on Valentine’s Day in 1959. They lived most of their married life in the Westbury subdivision of Houston before moving to Kingwood and later to College Station. They were blessed with two children – Tracy in 1966 and Kyle David in 1969. 

The family were active members of the Westbury Baptist Church and enjoyed participating in sports and musical activities in the area. They enjoyed annual family summer vacations to the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado. Andrea also loved chocolate, good Mexican food (especially El Felix in Houston), the sound of children’s laughter, and Chico’s. She made the best chocolate brownies.

Andrea and Joel moved to College Station, Texas in 2005 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s various activities as well as being active members of the Christian Collage Sunday School class at Christ Church and residents of The Langford Methodist Retirement Community.

Andrea is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Darlene Austin Cortemeglia. She is survived by her husband Joel, daughter Tracy, son Kyle, daughter-in-law Mary, and her four grandchildren – Kyleigh, Davis (Alyssa), and Gracen Harrell; and Anika Ruiz.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, College Station, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church or the YMCA of the Rockies – Estes Park Center.
