Ruby Ruth Stuckey passed away in the early morning hours of October 23, 2022 at Crestview skilled nursing in Bryan Texas. Mrs. Stuckey was born in the Martins Prairie community of Grimes County Texas on December 20, 1924 the fifth child of Rod and Isa Lavender.

A private graveside service will be held October 28, 2022 at Martins Prairie Cemetery. The Reverend Wick Stuckey of Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston will officiate. Mrs. Stuckey was a long-time member of Zion United Methodist Church in Iola, Texas.

Ruby graduated from Iola high school in 1942. Shortly after graduation she moved to Houston where she lived with her aunt and uncle while working at Hughes Tool Company helping to produce instrumentation for the American military in WWII. When the war ended in 1945 and her high school sweetheart Truitt returned from nearly four years of service overseas she and Truitt were married October 28, 1945 in the front yard of her family’s home in the Martins Prairie community. Ruby and Truitt were married for 69 years until his passing in 2015. They had two sons James (Jim) and Kerry.

Ruby was very supportive of her family by working tirelessly in Truitt’s office early in his business career, in school Parent Teacher Organizations, as a den mother for her sons’ boy scout activities, room mother at their school, countless hours in concession stands during their sports activities, never missing their ball games.

Ruby began her time as a hospital volunteer at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston in 1957 then at Pasadena Bayshore Hospital, then Huntsville Memorial Hospital and finally Saint Joseph’s Hospital Bryan for 26 years after their move back to Grimes County in 1986. Making a total of 43 years continuous service as a hospital volunteer.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Truitt, sisters Opal Trant and husband Kennard, Jewel Rice and husband Stewart, brothers Cecil Lavender and wife Lucille, Herbert Lavender and wife Myrtle, brother-in-law Bill Baker, sister in law Nina Walker, brother in law Bob Francis, sister in law Edloe Stuckey.

She is survived by sons and their wives Jim and Lynn Stuckey of College Station Texas, Kerry and Betsy Stuckey of Spring Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren Jeana Kelly, Kyle Stuckey and wife Jennifer, Julie Miller and husband Ryan, Katie Bloomfield and husband Chris, Amanda Jaen and husband Pedro step grandchildren Brian Maass and wife Dana, Greg Maass and wife Melissa, Carrie Maass and husband Matt Czisny, five great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by brothers in law Doyle Stuckey and Jack Walker, sisters in law Dorothy Baker and Bettye Francis.
