Raymundo Estrada Jr, born October 26th, 1956 in Laredo, TX, passed away peacefully in College Station, TX on May 6th, 2022 after a long and tough battle with Covid. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Jo Estrada, 6 children, Ashley Rae, Raymundo III, Michael Ray, Matthew Ray, Alexandra Rae and Joshua Ray and many grandchildren, Arianna, Maryah, Alanni, Elijah, Aleigha, Kalissa and Raymundo IV, after his namesake and several siblings of Ray.
Raymundo graduated from Martin High School, Laredo TX, in 1975. His dream was to become a band director, but life circumstances had a different plan for him. Ray had a natural instinct to take lead and teach others, so early on in his career he became a GM at a couple of retail stores. During these times was when his love story began. Raymundo Jr met, and soon after married, Mary. After about 12 years of selling cars, Raymundo was offered an opportunity with Hobby Lobby. He first moved alone to College Station and would commute every other week just to be with his family. After many hard worked years, he then retired from Hobby Lobby.
Raymundo was a man of God, family, and work in that order. He prayed every day, many times a day. His eyes spoke a thousand words with just one look. His ears were always listening to life around him, good and bad. His voice carried volume, both in weight and sound. And his mind, restless and determined! There was never anything he could not achieve.
Raymundo also shared love for cooking. For the food yes but mostly the family it brought to his table. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
He was a role model, and champion. He was that strong line in the sand that kept so many of us in line over the years. Most of all, he loved hard and always expected your best.
A funeral service is scheduled for May 31st, 2022, at 10:00am and will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church: 10703 Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78230
