Born in: Jacksonville, Texas
Resided in: College Station, Texas

Paula passed away at home surrounded by family on August 26th 2024, at the age of 79, after a long battle with cancer.

There will be open visitation from 11am to 1pm on August 31st, 2024. Followed by a private family service at 1pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center.

Paula was born on June 19th 1945, in Cherokee Co TX, to Rubin Wesley Roper and Dorthy Lorene Roper. She graduated from Troup High School in 1963. She then moved to Pasadena where she entered business school. She worked at a few different places while in Pasadena including the City of Houston. Once the family moved to College Station she worked and retired from TAMU.

Being a loving wife and mother, then grandmother and great grandmother was her biggest joy. She loved God and her family and wanted to make sure that everyone knew she loved them. She was also very active in the special needs community for many years. Many were considered part of her extended family. She was a very strong, loving and caring woman. She would help anyone that she could in any way that she could. Seeing other people happy made her happy.

She was preceded in death by her father Wesley Roper, her mother Lorene Roper Darden. As well as her grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family members and friends that she has now gone to be with.

She is survived by her brother Wesley Donny Roper, her husband of 60 years, Jerry Etheridge. Her son David Etheridge and his wife Melissa Etheridge. Her daughter, Kelley Etheridge. Grandchildren and great grandchildren. Megan Doty, husband Casey Doty and their sons Chace and Cooper. Shelby Schlechte, husband Nicholas Schlechte daughters Zoey, Skyler and Riley. Michael Etheridge, Patricia Montgomery. Tiffany Etheridge and her son Jesse and daughter Brooklyn.

She was dearly loved by many and will be missed more than words could ever say. We are thankful that she has gone to be with her Lord, and is no longer suffering from the pain the disease caused her.

  2. Paula was so compassionate and caring. We will miss her, but will always remember her smile and her work with The Arc of BCS that made so many people happy. Our hearts are with Kelly, Jerry, and the rest of Paula’s family.

  3. When you would think of Paula or see Paula, there would be her beautiful smile, that radiated because of her sincere love and care and prayers. Though Paula is finally experiencing and loving her Glorious Entrance into her Eternal Home, her prayers will never die. Her prayers will live on to completion, as she has left them in GOD’s Hands. Oh My, she loved you all, especially her dear family, she could not have loved you more! “Those who look to HIM are Radiant” Ps34:5 And her smile radiated That! What a Perfect picture of remembrances of Paula! What A Dear Caring Friend! What a Treasure and we are all richer because we knew Paula.
