Resided in: College Station, Texas

Mildred “Millie” Fuller Jones was born in Little Rock, AR on August 25, 1924 and peacefully entered her eternal home on April 30,2021 at the age of 96 years old. She was a member of A&M United Methodist Church and a resident of College Station for the past 74 years.

She lived with her grandparents throughout her childhood, graduated from high school in Gate City, Virginia and Draughon’s Business College in Memphis, TN. She was drawn to the dental field as a teenager when she worked for Dr. Campbell in Memphis and was trained to be a dental assistant.

Millie met and married Truman Jones, Jr. during World War II at Ft, Belvoir, Virginia where she worked as a secretary for the Combat Engineers writing and producing technical manuals for the war effort. Their six children, Bill Jones of Houston, Bob Jones of Houston, Nancy Bollman, of Rowlett, B.J. “Bruce” Jones of Waller, Barbie Jones of Spring, and Larry Jones of College Station, all survive them.  She has 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

While she reared her kids, she was a cub scout den mother, PTA mom, room mother, football, choir, & band booster club member. She was President of the A & M Mother’s Club and a sponsor for almost everything, especially MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship). You could always count on her if you needed a volunteer or needed a chaperone. In 1969 she returned to work as a dental assistant for Dr. Gordon Pratt and worked there until she retired. She was active in the American Dental Assistant Association, and the Texas Dental Assistant Association.

In 1984 she was selected by the China-U.S. Scientific Exchange to be a dental assistant representative for the U.S.A, While in China she got to tour the country and walk on the Great Wall of China. In 1988 she was selected to be a part of the U.S Exchange Program with the Soviet Union and represented the U.S.A. as a dental assistant. She toured all over the Soviet Union. Her stories of these two trips were such fun to hear. She lived life to the fullest. She loved attending or watching Aggie football and she especially loved Aggie baseball.

One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her family at a lake, either fishing, boating or sailing. At 65 she got up on water skis one last time. She loved to sew, knit or crochet for her kids and friends and she always loved reading a good romance novel. She enjoyed to travel and went to many places all over the world and explored almost every unique place in the state of Texas. She was in church somewhere almost every Sunday. She will be greatly missed by so many.

The family wants to thank Encompass Health Hospice and Right At Home Home Healthcare Services for their compassionate care of our mom this past year, and Debra Greenleaf and all the special people that cared for our mom during her last years. Memorials gifts can be made in Memory of Millie Jones to the “Lighthouse for New Hope”, a grief and loss center in Dallas that her daughter, Nancy founded. Send to: P.O. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Millie loved her family and her life. As she always said paraphrased:when I am gone, I want no sadness but a party. I had a great life full of love.

  2. I remember the joy of life that would fill the room whenever you and Billie were together.

  3. Remembering Mrs. Millie with love, laughter and joy that she had for family and others. Always enjoying to recall fulfilled memories of past adventures. She could tell them in a way that made you vision so vivid or lone to see and always leave you laughing! My prayers for Bob, Nancy, Larry, Bill, B.J.,Barbie and all the grands/great grandchildren is to think of Fancy Granny and all her accomplishments and remember that in each of you is a great bit of her! Blessings in Christ Jesus be your strength.

  4. Thank you Ms. Millie, you were a wonderful lady to our dad, Andy Smith and our entire family.
We appreciated all the kindness you showed him and the memories that you made with him and our family.

    The Smith Family

  5. Oh Millie, so many memories! There are the ones from when I was young. But most cherished are the ones we shared when you came to visit Billie in WA. The stories!! From your humble beginnings, you accomplished so much and had so many adventures. Truly a spunky member of the greatest generation! Sending our love, Cheryl and Cecil

  6. Millie was a remarkable woman. As a child, I was always in awe of her. She could command authority over a house full of kids without raising her voice, firm but fair – and in the next breath, remind you that there was ice cream in the fridge that needed eating. As an adult, I had nothing but admiration for her, as she was a strong, independent woman who lived her life to the fullest, with enthusiasm and compassion. She was not only Mom’s cousin, but always her best friend. Whenever they got together, it was as if they had never been apart, with laughter all around for unending hours. I have no doubt that Millie will make the most of this next great adventure of hers.
