Mildred "Millie" Jones

Mildred “Millie” Fuller Jones was born in Little Rock, AR on August 25, 1924 and peacefully entered her eternal home on April 30,2021 at the age of 96 years old. She was a member of A&M United Methodist Church and a resident of College Station for the past 74 years.

She lived with her grandparents throughout her childhood, graduated from high school in Gate City, Virginia and Draughon’s Business College in Memphis, TN. She was drawn to the dental field as a teenager when she worked for Dr. Campbell in Memphis and was trained to be a dental assistant.

Millie met and married Truman Jones, Jr. during World War II at Ft, Belvoir, Virginia where she worked as a secretary for the Combat Engineers writing and producing technical manuals for the war effort. Their six children, Bill Jones of Houston, Bob Jones of Houston, Nancy Bollman, of Rowlett, B.J. “Bruce” Jones of Waller, Barbie Jones of Spring, and Larry Jones of College Station, all survive them.  She has 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

While she reared her kids, she was a cub scout den mother, PTA mom, room mother, football, choir, & band booster club member. She was President of the A & M Mother’s Club and a sponsor for almost everything, especially MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship). You could always count on her if you needed a volunteer or needed a chaperone. In 1969 she returned to work as a dental assistant for Dr. Gordon Pratt and worked there until she retired. She was active in the American Dental Assistant Association, and the Texas Dental Assistant Association.

In 1984 she was selected by the China-U.S. Scientific Exchange to be a dental assistant representative for the U.S.A, While in China she got to tour the country and walk on the Great Wall of China. In 1988 she was selected to be a part of the U.S Exchange Program with the Soviet Union and represented the U.S.A. as a dental assistant. She toured all over the Soviet Union. Her stories of these two trips were such fun to hear. She lived life to the fullest. She loved attending or watching Aggie football and she especially loved Aggie baseball.

One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her family at a lake, either fishing, boating or sailing. At 65 she got up on water skis one last time. She loved to sew, knit or crochet for her kids and friends and she always loved reading a good romance novel. She enjoyed to travel and went to many places all over the world and explored almost every unique place in the state of Texas. She was in church somewhere almost every Sunday. She will be greatly missed by so many.

The family wants to thank Encompass Health Hospice and Right At Home Home Healthcare Services for their compassionate care of our mom this past year, and Debra Greenleaf and all the special people that cared for our mom during her last years. Services will be held at A&M United Methodist Church, College Station, on Saturday May 8th at 2:00 in the afternoon, officiated by Rev. Guy Pry. There will be visitation with the family prior to the memorial service from 1:00 to 2:00 at the church. Limited viewing will be available from 12:30 to 1 in advance of regular visitation. Interment will follow immediately after the service at the Aggie Field of Honor Cemetery in College Station, TX. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Centers of Bryan College Station.
