Merlyn Irene (Schuch) Klinksiek, 84, of Bryan, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 9, 2020 with her husband Harold and daughter Leslie holding her hands.

Merlyn was born in Fredericksburg, Texas on September 3, 1936 to the late Chester and Irene (Palmer) Schuch. She graduated from Fredericksburg High School where she was a cheerleader and tennis player. While working in Austin, Merlyn graduated from the June Brooks Modeling Studio.

She married Harold Klinksiek (Texas A&M Class of 1957) on June 15, 1957 and joined him at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. While in Kansas she served as the vice president of the Topeka Professional Models Club. There she modeled and provided instructions in charm and modeling for students aged 12 to 40. Upon their return to Fredericksburg, Texas, she was an instructor at the Lucille Miller Studio teaching a Self-Improvement and Modeling Course.

Merlyn later became an associate at the family’s Fredericksburg True Value Hardware Store where she especially enjoyed merchandising and display. She brought happiness to many as a bridal consultant, personal toy shopper and a guide to gift buyers – while at the same time selling nuts, bolts, hand tools and appliances. Following retirement, Merlyn and Harold moved to Aggieland in College Station.

Merlyn was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara and infant son Harold Jr. She is survived by her husband Harold, daughter Leslie of Houston and son Jason of El Campo. She will be missed by all her family including many nieces, nephews, and cousins who she always met with a proper hug and showed how to go through life’s challenges with grace, beauty, and strength.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Merlyn’s memory to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church at 115 E San Antonio St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We are very saddened to hear of this news. Merlyn was a special lady. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you during this difficult time.

  2. Aunt Merlyn was a sweet, caring, and loving lady who brought joy to many. She was fun to be around during family get-togethers. I loved working with her at the family Tru Value store. She was so welcoming to all of the customers and well-liked by all. I will hold all these memories in my heart. My deepest sympathy to Uncle Harold and Leslie. You are in my prayers.

    • Dear Aunt Merlyn,
Whenever you entered a room, your smile and your joyful heart would light it up! I was always so excited to see you and Harold at family gatherings. I remember going to the machine shop and you would take us kids to the back to get an old fashioned Coke that came in a glass bottle! You touched the lives of all who knew you! My thoughts, prayers and love to Harold, Leslie and Jason.

  3. Aunt Merlyn earned the coveted title “favorite aunt” in my heart forever. When you look up “how to give a hug, in the dictionary, it says “Merlyn Klinksiek.” Her warm and meaningful hugs said, “I love you, you are important to me.” When one thinks about the importance of extended family support, she defined that for me! I love you, I will miss you sorely, and I will never forget you, Aunt Merlyn. Love, Joy Oehler Culpepper

  4. We love and will miss Aunt Merlyn. God be with you, Uncle Harold, Leslie, and Jason as you grieve her and go through this next part of life. Our favorite memories are how she greeted us with huge hugs, when we came into Fredericksburg True Value Hardware store, with a hug that only she knew how to give That was her specialty. She was a dear friend to Mom (Berta) and to Dad (Alton) and our whole family. She decorated the shop beautifully for every occasion and holiday. She was a great mother to Leslie, Jason and Harold, Jr. Rest in peace, Aunt Merlyn!

  5. Aunt Merlyn you will be missed so bad. When I was little, you were always so kind to me when I would come visit the machine shop! It made me feel like a celebrity! You always brightened the room with your smile and good spirits. Every time I would tell you things, you made me feel like life was going to be ok. That was comforting as I grew up. I love that we have our Aggie bond. You will be proud to know that my girls plan to carry on our Aggie roots! I love you and will miss you. Please tell God Gig’em for me!
    Love, Laura

  6. Your mother sounds like a person everyone loved. I know she will be missed by all. My love and condolences to you, Leslie and to all your family. I know how hard it is to lose a parent, especially your mother.
    Hugs
    Judy Stallknecht

  7. There are lots of good memories and Aunt Merlyn will always be revered as a great person. She was so caring, so loving, so strong, and yet very kind and thoughtful. The challenges she dealt with made my own seem frivolous, but she was fearless and plowed right through them with such a positive, “can do” attitude! Once again Merlyn and Alberta Oehler, my mother, her sister-in-law, are together in a better place giggling and laughing with enough smiles to light up the stars! I know you will be missed, but you will certainly be remembered!

  8. So many good memories of Aunt Merlyn. I don’t remember a time when she didn’t have a smile on her face. One memory that always sticks in my mind is when she along with my other aunts threw me a wedding shower at Aunt Alberta’s house. She put together a PVC time capsule and had everyone write where they thought Reagan and I would be in 5 years. It was awesome. I know she will be missed by many, but as others have said, she’s with so many other family members still smiling and having a good, blessed time. To Harold and Leslie, with the times we live in, I’m so grateful you got to be with her through it all. Stay strong and God bless!

  9. It was our honor at Parc to know and care for Merlyn. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She and Mr. Klinksiek were one of the few couples in our assisted living. I would often see them walking the hallways hand in hand. My greeting would be “Hello my favorite couple”. The loved they shared was true and pure. Merlyn will be truly missed! To Mr. Klinksiek and Leslie, I know your faith will keep you.

    Our deepest condolences,
Nicki Oaks and The entire Parc at Traditions’ Team!

  10. Sid and I are so very sorry to hear about Aunt Merlyns passing. We remember her as always kind and loving. She made me feel so Important and welcomed when I joined the family back in 80s. Sid says to tell the family he misses her

  11. After reading all of these memories in this guestbook, I can see where Leslie gets her beautiful smile and personality. Rest in peace, Mother Klinksiek and God bless your loving, thoughtful family.

  12. Merlyn, I will always hold a special place for you in my heart. Thank you for being so good to me my whole life, even when I was a child. I always felt welcomed and accepted by you. I know God welcomed you and accepted you into his kingdom, just the way you always did for me. You were a good person that we all should strive to be like. You will be missed, but hopefully I will get to see you again someday.

  13. Aunt Merlyn — My lasting memory of you is your smile. It was not the standard smile. It was the kind of smile that made it seem like you were having the time of your life — always! It was contagious, and I will miss seeing it. Love, Luke
