Mavis spent her childhood living in Leon Junction and attended the New Olive school with grades 1 thru 8th grade. They walked 31/2 miles to school, because family didn’t own a car. Mavis was a beautiful blonde headed girl with a big smile and loved the outdoors, she was a good softball player in school and loved riding her bicycle. She attended the community church and excepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 10 and served him faithfully until her death. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and talent to play piano and blessed the church with her playing and singing. In the summer of 1954 while attending a street dance on the courthouse square in Gatesville and eating at the Cozy cafe, she met a very tall handsome young man John Featherston who in September 18,1955 was married in the Pentecostal Church in Leon Junction and they made their home in Gatesville, Texas until later moving to Bryan, Texas. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be missed by all who’s life she touched. What a great celebration took place Friday morning when the angles came to carry her to her eternal home in heaven with Jesus, family and friends. Will meet again in that sweet bye-and-bye.

  2. Loretta and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Mavis was a strong and focused woman with a great smile and an adoring family. I always enjoyed my visits to the home and the variety of animals, her flowers, and her stories. I imagine her smile is still with her as she enters heaven. Prayers and love to all.

  3. Aunt Mavis did love well, both people and animals. She had an open heart and an open home and a wonderful laugh. My heart is sad, but I know she is in the care of our Jesus. My love to Loretta, Danny, Gina and their families. May God hold you close in the weeks ahead.
