Born Lucy Marilyn Roth in Gardner, MA, she was the daughter of William and Lucy McCarthy Roth. She enjoyed science and academics. The first in her family to go to college, she graduated from Bates College in 1949, with a degree in Chemistry, and got her MS at Smith College in 1952. While working at Johns Hopkins University, she met John D Cochrane. They married in Gardner MA in 1955.

In 1956, the couple moved to College Station, where she raised her family, kept a long line of cats, one dog, and, for a short while, a pet raccoon. She had a life-long interest in science, history, natural history, and ecology. She enjoyed world travel, bird-watching, and taking long walks.

She will be missed by her sons, daughter-in-laws, and daughter: John & Cheryl Cochrane, Bill & Peggy Cochrane, Bob & Jeanie Cochrane, Tom Cochrane, Betty Cochrane Setterlund; and her grandchildren: Nels, Adrienne, Amy, April Setterlund, Billy, Brent, Brittany, Blayne Cochrane, Eric Cochrane, Alex Szilgyi, and their spouses and 19 great grandchildren.

Guestbook

  1. She was a good neighbor for over 40 years and I enjoyed our visiting so much. She was truly a brilliant woman and yes, she loved her walks. She also loved her animals, especially her kitties. We searched for one of them long and hard, many times. One of her grandchildren and his family are living in her house that they bought and restored, so I still have a Cochran living right across the street!
My sympathy to all of the family and farewell, my sweet friend.
