Margaret Burns Matson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died on June 10, 2024, at the age of 80.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 57 years, Randy Matson; her children, Jessica Camp and husband Russell, Jim Matson and wife Somare, Cole W. Matson and wife Carey; her grandchildren, Ethan Camp, Greyson Camp, Matson Camp, McKean Matson, Cole R. Matson and wife Maggie, Kate Matson, Sarah Matson, and Margaret W. Matson; and bonus family, Norma Nash, Andre Ford and wife Denesha, Norma de Melo, Julie Dibrell, and Kellis Dibrell.

Margaret was born in Pampa, Texas on February 4, 1944, to Robert and Jessie Burns. She graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1966 with a degree in Elementary Education. On July 30, 1966, she married Randy. They moved to College Station, Texas, where she taught elementary school in Bryan ISD for two years. After the birth of her children, she became a dedicated homemaker.

Margaret had a way of making everyone near her feel special. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. When her grandkids were little, she could frequently be found ankle deep in the pond in her backyard trying to catch fish with them. She loved studying the Bible with her friends, and her Christian faith was at the core of all she did. Her love and care for others led her family to continue to grow over the years. She leaves a legacy of love, kindness, genuine concern for others, and generosity that is an inspiration to us all. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, neighbors, and all who knew her.

  4. We are saddened to hear of Margaret’s passing.
Being classmates of Margaret’s at Abilene Christian University, we loved her smile and warmth toward all. She was a very precious person and we know her passing will leave a huge hole in your lives. Our deepest sympathies to all who love her. May the Lord hold you close and comfort you as only He can

  5. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Margaret. I know she was deeply loved by all who knew her. Godspeed.

  6. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Margaret was such a beautiful, loving and kind person. We pray you allow God to hold you in His arms of comfort and peace.

  7. The Margaret Burns Matson I knew and loved was probably the kindest soul I’ve ever known. Truly, like an angel in human form. A 10 year old country girl moving to town from a very small country school was a challenge to me. Margaret Burns was the very first person to actually acknowledge my presence, speak to me and greet me with a kind smile. I was blessed 2 years later to be a Reaper Cheerleader along with Margaret. We cheered together all through High School. Through all those years, I sincerely believe that I never heard a negative or ugly word or comment from her about another person. Very very Rare to know such a person. She was the real deal! She was a true Christ Follower, and lived her faith. I loved and will never forget the sound of her laughter. It was so unique!
My prayers go out to Randy, her children, and her extended family. May God comfort you as only He can do.

  8. Margaret was an angel filled with fun that made our years at ACU filled with laughter and craziness!
Her mom treated me like a daughter! Randy, you and your children and grands have our heartfelt love, sympathy and prayers!
“May the peace that passes all understanding guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus!”
    Vicki and Rocky

  9. So sorry for your loss. I am sure she is at peace now. Our prayers for her & comfort for all of you
    With sympathy, Barbara & Bob

  10. Margaret was such a sweet soul. She will be missed by so many. I loved her sweet smile and enjoyed times as her neighbor. Randy and kids, grandkids, I pray for you all as you learn to navigate life without her right there. But she is with you.

  11. Margaret was so very precious and truly loved her Lord. She surely is walking and talking and praising Him now. Randy and family may the peace of Almighty God surround you and His Strength, Mercy and Love cover you

  12. A precious piece of my life! One I have and always will cherish. There are only 3 women in my life that have shown me God up close and you are one of them. You and your family are so very dear to all of us who have been Blessed to have even a second of your time. God Bless all and know He is embracing one of His most Treasured of Children. And one of my most treasured memories. With the Love of God you helped to instill in me, Sherry

  13. Margaret was a very special person. She was such a joy to cheerlead beside. She was beautiful inside and out. ❤️❤️ Randy, we are praying for you and your family.

  14. I have so many great memories of Margaret and her family! We always enjoyed our visits and had so much fun when we were together! I loved when they were in Amarillo and saw each other at church and at each other’s houses! When we were talking on the phone I could hear Jessica pretending too cook and say “burned the bacon again”Margaret would just laugh and say she hears me say that all the time. I have so many stories I could tell! I’m so sorry I didn’t get to see her more and her family! I will miss her! Loved her and love her family! Prayers for comfort for all of you!

  15. Margaret and Randy were people at Pampa High School everyone knew or knew of. They both represented the PHS we all loved.
John and I are saddened to hear of this loss. May Randy and his family and extended family know we are sorry to hear about Margaret. I guess we have the false impression that we will all live forever. What a blessing you all have been given to have someone as kind and special to be your role model as a friend, a sister, a wife, a grandmother. You will continue to share memories and your stories about what Margaret has meant to you. Blessings to your family.

  16. Dear Randy and Family,

  18. My sympathy to Randy and family. I knew Margaret in high school and thought she was so kind and fun of Joy. She was always smiling causing one to feel that same happiness. I know she is now rejoicing with our King. I know she leaves a hole in the lives of Randy, children, grandchildren, the church fellowship and all who knew her. I have been praying,,

  19. We were shocked and saddened to learn of Margaret’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Randy and Family. Kathy and Andy Hansen

  20. Precious Margaret, my heart hurts because you are no longer here on this earth, but I know that you are safe in the arms of our Blessed Savior and I look forward to the day when we will all be together before His Throne. I will always treasure in my heart the times that we spent together in prayer and Bible study.
    I love you Dear Friend,
    Cherry

  21. Margaret was a beautiful Christian lady–inside and out. May God comfort the family as they mourn her passing. I surely understand the loss and hurt.

  22. In her life Margaret chose to love freely, to share effortlessly, to focus on the most precious gifts of her life. Your years together have brought many blessings. Find shelter in her memory as you comfort one another.

To Randy and Family, Please accept my deepest sympathy at this time of devastating loss.
