Dr. Marcy Halterman-Cox
July 9, 1958 ~ September 26, 2024
Born in:
Carbondale , Illinois
Resided in:
College Station, Texas
With her family by her side, Dr. Marcy Halterman-Cox went running into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ on September 26, 2024. Born July 9, 1958 in Carbondale IL, she grew up on a farm with horses (and did some barrel racing). She was also active in athletics, cheerleading and track at Carbondale Community High School (Class of 76), and running the 400m and mile relay at Southern Illinois University. Marcy loved learning and collecting degrees – BA from SIU, a chiropractic degree at Logan University in St. Louis, Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law, MS in Public Health from Texas A&M School of Public Health and a BSN from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. She was one semester short of finishing a family nurse practitioner program when diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer, which she lived with for 7 years.
It took awhile, but a hospice benefit brought her to the love of her life, Russell Cox, in 1998. They wasted no time having kids but still made time to enjoy traveling all over the world with them and extended family. She loved planning and going on ‘shot out of the cannon’ trips to Europe and South America with her extended family. Daughter Aine was the joy of her life, but she wanted a sister – which couldn’t happen biologically, so the family went to China to get Eva. She made the family complete.
Marcy was a chiropractor serving the community locally for almost forty years. She kept working after being diagnosed because ‘it’s just something like COPD or congestive heart failure’. Plus she loved her patients and felt chiropractic was more a calling than a career.
She is preceded by her mother and father, Anna and Dr. Harold Halterman (a chiropractor) and all of her aunts and uncles (except for two of them). She is survived by her husband, Russell; children, Aine Ortiz (spouse Nathaniel) and Eva of Bedford TX; her brother, Sheldon of Chicago IL; niece, Marissa (Matt) Ruesch of Charlotte, NC; aunt, Martha Halterman of Cambria, IL; uncle, Dr. Charles Halterman (a chiropractor) of Anna, IL and many other nephews, nieces, great nephews/nieces and treasured friends.
Marcy’s visitation will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 6pm – 8pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Center, 3001 S. College Avenue, Bryan. The celebration of life will be on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 3pm at Grace Bible Church – Creekside Campus, 4601 Williams Creek Drive, College Station. Following the service there will a celebration of life party at the Courtyard Marriott in College Station. I am crushed at the world’s loss of Marcy’s smiling face. I’ve been her patient & friend from way back. Most of my family also were her patients. She was such an incredible person. I hated seeing her with an illness. She was always upbeat,
Prayers for all who loved her. I’m so sorry I cannot attend visitation or service as I am taking care of an elderly cousin.
I have known this sweet lady for over 30 years. We always said how amazing that glorious day would be when the trumpet sounds calling us home. As long as we have memories of her beautiful smile, how she cared for all her patients and made amazing friendships we will know the world was a much better place with her being in it. With love and prayers for all who loved her.. Tonya Robinson
I can’t begin to express how much I’m going to miss my friend & doctor. I truly mean it when I say there was no one like her. So incredibly smart, full of life, full of energy, full of love & joy, so devoted to her patients, so selfless, so crazy about her family, such a wealth of information, & so much more. I remember fondly, our years at Aggieland Country School with our girls, then becoming a patient, & eventually a dear friend. Marcy saw me through my own cancer journey in 2011, answered countless emails about supplements & nutrition, treated me with acupuncture, adjustments, consultations, & even 9 days ago was answering questions when I came to visit her at home. We prayed together on multiple occasions, talked about scripture, the Lord’s power to heal & help (which He did so many times) & the love of Jesus & His gift of eternal life. I never once saw her act discouraged even though she went through so many painful & difficult things the past 7 years. I will never forget Dr Marcy. I’m eternally grateful for her beautiful life & zest for living. Russell, Aine, & Eva I’ve been praying off & on all day for you. I’m so very sorry for your great loss. Goodness, she loved y’all!
Marcy and I worked many a KAMU Auction together and she was a kind, funny and beautiful lady inside and out.
Please accept my sincere condolences. Just a few months ago I lost my dad so it is awfully painful to lose someone you love.
I met Marcy in one of my yoga classes at Yoga Pod about 7 years ago and enjoyed talking to her after each class. She was so kind, supportive, and caring. I sought her help for my back and hip issues and her acupuncture treatments offered me great pain release. She will be missed!❤️
I remember Marcy as an “entrepreneur” at the Jackson county country club selling concessions. She was about 4 years older than me and my friends and she was in high school. She always treated us younger kids really good. We all loved Marcy. Rest in peace my friend, I will see you again someday.
Marcy did Acupuncture on me and I believe she was a big reason that I was able to have my daughter, who just turned 5. I never got to tell her that it worked! I am sorry to hear of her passing. She was a wonderful person and her soul radiated! Give my Mom a big hug for me Marcy! ❤️
Fun Surfer Gal from Hawai U. IQ 160+ is what we saw inside this professional at most things earthly and wise to those things not. These are not big shoes to fill, this is a huge vacuum that may take an era & many to return this community to a status quo.
Her fun Dad played golf with us when older, healthy from past dance instructor & chiropractor, among other talents. EZ to see what a good nest can breed into one’s children.
Marcy had me design a few things, always organized, did her homework. Was impressed when she was the only one to bring me The Not So Big House books series as part of her design folder genesis.
Always helping others with no self gains in mind is most obvious in her KAMU continual giving, hosting, et al.
Giving in another way: Her painful travel through Medical Centers may also help those that must follow her.
May her earthly pains be done and her heavenly bounty begin in sunshine and happiness again.
Marcy was truely a gamer. We kept her in our prayers for over five years. Her fight was an inspiration to all. May she enter God’s presence and be at peace.
My love to all the family.

We would like to send our condolences to you and your family..

I have known Marcy for several years while she was fighting with the cancer. During these years, every time I meet with her, I always found her with smiling. I admire her courage and optimism. She is also very kind, thinking about others. I felt so sad that we lost her! I will miss her. -Lainey
She was such a spirit. Back around 1986 she returned to Carbondale. She had been in Hawaii and had her red Porsche shipped here. Even today I think of her when I drive Pleasant Hill Road as there is a red Porsche in a driveway just rusting away. I often wonder if it was hers. She will be missed. God Bless her.
I love this story so much! I’m a huge Porsche fan & plan on buying one soon! Just one more reason to love her! In fact, I feel her permission to proceed! LOL! Thank you for sharing this! Was it a 911?
Rest in Peace Marcy.
Marcy is truly one of the most amazing and intelligent people I know. I first became a patient of Marcy’s in 1991 or 1992 after a work related back injury. From that moment on Marcy was my go to for any pain issues and injuries. Over the years Marcy also became my favorite doctor, so knowledgeable about so many symptoms and diagnosed. She was my functional medicine doctor, chiropractor and acupuncturist. There are countless ways Marcy blessed me and even became my son’s chiropractor when he was a new born. I was truly blessed to become a member of her team at College State Chiropractic in the spring of 2013 until 2021 when I moved out of state. We spent much time together in prayer. She is a true prayer warrior. Marcy will forever be missed, cherished, loved. I am beyond grateful for each moment, conversation and prayer with Marcy. She has brought healing to countless lives and yet remained truly humble at all times, caring, loving, selfless. That’s Marcy. It’s hard to process but I know she is celebrating with Jesus.
Russell, Aine, Eva and family, prayers are with you all. God bring you peace, comfort and strength and endless joyful memories.
Marcy has been my sweet friend for a long time. Even before I started working for the Cancer Center with her husband Russell. We shared many conversations about family, friends, work and how much she loved the Lord and understood that everything is in hands and timing. She loved her family and she never met a stranger. Her smile and laughter was contagious. She and Russell shared many adventures in their travels together. Your presence will be missed. However, you are now in the presence of our Lord Jesus and all of his angels. I will see you again my friend one day so make room for me as you lay on green grass and blue skies!!!
Out of the hundreds of deliveries I made that semester for a local flower shop back in the early 90’s I remember her. Bright eyed and full of energy, just one of those people you don’t forget meeting. My condolences to her family and friends.
I am so sorry to hear this. Dr Marcy helped me so much in the beginning of my back procedures. I went to see Dr Stonecipher because of her before he retired and the two of them got me walking again. She was a ray of sunshine during my darkest hours. I will miss her and that smile.
Difficult to articulate the impact of someone like Marcy…i feel like we all fluttered around her like moths to an incredibly bright flame. Even after the cancer diagnosis she shone brighter than ever, so positive, optimistic and always always looking forward to healthier times with husband and family. So incredibly grateful that i knew her just a little bit….
Dearest Marcy.
I have known you for many years, worked with you in the clinic and absolutely loved the way you did your stuff.
I was always amazed when the patient would come in and be in great pain, and left with such relief. Marcy, you are already missed, I can’t believe it.
I know that you are finally at peace, and you did what you were purposed for. Healing. I’m sorry for your family, your girls and Russell. My heart is crushed, but you are finally resting in the arms of your Lord and Savior. Rest easy Dr. Marcy. Rest easy.
What a blessing it was to know Marcy all these years. I can’t even remember when we met, I just always knew her. I was blessed to see her last year and of course had no idea it would be the last time, so I’m glad I hugged her tight.
She was a bright light and consistently kind and upbeat. What a beautiful person inside and out!
Such a sweet and kind person. Always a smile on her face…at least for her patients. She will be missed by many here in our community.
RIP Marcy. You were the best Chiropractor I’ve ever been to. You always made me smile, just because you were always smiling. I will miss you so much.
I am so sad to read this. I was Marcy’s English teacher at Carbondale Community High School in the 1970’s. She was such a dedicated, talented young lady. May her memory bring peace to her family and friends.
Dearest Marcy
I will miss you so much .You were such a wonderful friend. We have known each other since 1982. We worked together at the Mililani clinic and we were roommates for some time incl your Golden Retriver Spot. We had lots of good time and fun. You were always in good spirit and optimistic. I cherish our great memories.
Rest is peace with Jesus my dear friend.
Aloha
Alice
Dear and beloved Marcy,
John and I met Marcy back in 1988 when she became our chiropractor and then our Lamaze breathing coach for the birth of our daughter. Marcy lit up the room with her smile, her encouragement, positivity and her radiant presence! Over the course of the last 37 years….she tended to our back pain and nurtured our souls with her healing physical touch and soulful interactions. I always felt seen and heard by Marcy in the midst of her busy practice. Marcy, Your presence, your light ..will be deeply missed! I find such comfort in knowing you are with the Lover of Your Soul…Jesus…..and until we meet again in His Glorious Presence….I will remember you…always. With much love to your family and friends as we all grieve your loss here on earth. Until we meet in the fields of heaven with our beloved animals running free with us….this is not goodbye…..just see you later….
I loved having you as a cousin! Your spirit is the best of the Halterman spirit and I am so grateful for all the lives you touched in this lifetime. Rest in peace and pain-free.
Russell, I’m sorry for your loss. Lane
