Lucien (Lu) Miles Harris, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and friend passed away on Friday, August 11th surrounded by his wife and children. Lu’s funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 18th at St. Mary’s Catholic church, 603 Church Ave. at 2p.m. There will be a reception following the Mass at St. Mary’s. A Rosary will be prayed before the Mass at 1:00 p.m, for those interested in participating. The internment will be held on Saturday at the Aggie Field of Honor in College Station.
Lu was born to Martha Marggraf Harris and James Louis Harris in Houston, Texas. He spent most of his life in west Houston and Katy. He attended Stratford High School, Texas A&M University and earned his Masters degree from St. Thomas University. He was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets, Company I-1 and the Ross Volunteers while attending Texas A&M. He proudly served his country by taking a commission in the Army upon graduation, and continued serving in the Army Reserves during the 1980’s. Upon completion of his active duty, he worked for his father’s steel fabrication company, Rendrag, in Sealy. In 1983 he married the love of his life, Shari Masterson Harris, and his greatest joy in life was his family. Lu made family life a priority, and he cheered his children on from the stands and coached them in various sports. Lu had a passion for hunting, fishing, tailgating and spending time in the great outdoors with his many buddies. He switched careers in 1987 and had a long and successful career as a financial advisor and wealth manager. He became a Senior Vice President at RBC Wealth Management, and he enjoyed making meaningful connections with his clients for many years. Lu and Shari moved from Katy to College Station in 2014 and spent their free time supporting his beloved Texas Aggies by attending sporting events, OPAS performances, and serving as a class agent for the Class of ‘80. His love of Texas A&M inspired his two children and numerous nieces and nephews to follow in his footsteps.
Lu never met a stranger and could connect with people through his charm and sense of humor in a way that left everyone in awe. He loved God, his family, his friends, good food, great wine and bourbon. He had a passion for travel and planned many wonderful adventures for his family throughout his life. His two children and their spouses were his greatest source of pride and joy. He adored his grandchildren, and shared his love of fishing, hunting, the Astros and Aggie sports with them. Lu’s sense of humor was one-of-a-kind, and he is famous amongst his nieces and nephews for tales of the “Sidehill Crawler” and his party tricks like pulling his thumb off.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Louis Harris. Lu passed away on the ten year anniversary of his father’s passing.
He is survived by his wife, Shari; his daughter Ashley and her husband Alex Holladay, parents of his grandchildren Hannah and Harris; his son James Harris and his wife Laura, who are expecting his third grandchild in November; his mother Martha Marggraf Harris; his siblings: Mike, Ellen Heiberger, John, Tom, David and their families; as well as Shari’s siblings who considered him a brother: Marc, Drew, Tom, Bill and their families; and Shari’s mother, Ann Masterson.

Sorry for your family’s loss. Had not seen Lu since Final Review in 1980. We were in First Battalion together during our four year cycle in the Corps. He was a great guy, and will be missed. He leaves a legacy to be proud of. Look forward to meeting the family on Friday. Gig’em Lu ! Here !

So many awesome memories! Tailgating, ranch, fishing trips, concerts, but my favorite is all of the nicknames Lu gives everyone he loves. I will always treasure my Lueeeeeee nickname, Marianne!! Love you to the moon and back Lueeeeeeeee!!!
Gig’em!RIP
Everytime I light a fire, shoot a gun, or go hunting with my dad. I will think of Uncle Lu.
If someone calls me Rooney, I will think of Uncle Lu, everytime my hair gets a little to long and I look like a “Hippie” I will think of Uncle Lu. There many many more things I could say but I don’t think anyone wants to read a book about my memories with such an amazing person. I love you Uncle Lu, alway will. I love you to Aunt Shari, James and Ashley. He is at peace and so are we. Thank you for being the best oldest Uncle I could ask for, love you – Rooney.
May his memory be eternal!
Lu helped guide the finances of my family, starting with an aunt and cousin, followed by my parents and later my siblings, for at least 25 years. After having Lu as a counselor, broker and (eventually) friend for many years, when my father decided it was time to relinquish management of his portfolio he entrusted that to Lu. My dad was a pretty astute investor, and he never regretted that decision. I believe they shared affection and respect for each other. Lu saw our family, and eventually me, through multiple life events with kind, patient professionalism. His advice reflected his wanting to understand our goals and who we were. He seemed to never tire of listening to and answering my repetitive questions, and I’ll deeply miss his friendly countenance (whether in person or over the phone), expert advice and guidance. My thoughts are with his family.
I was lucky enough to meet Lu in Sept of 2021 at James and Laura’s engagement party and getting to see him again in August of 2022 at James and Laura’s wedding. He was the type of person you felt like you’ve known all your life. He was so sweet and loved his family. So sorry to hear of his loss and will be praying for his sweet family.
Our deepest condolences to the Harris family. Lu was incredible man, and we will always remember him! Wishing your family strength and peace during this difficult time. Please remember we are here for you if you need anything. Love,
Lu was the financial advisor for my wife’s father, Raydon Thaxton, who lived in Many La. We could tell there more than just a business connection between the two. When my father in law was close to a 100 years old he invited Lu up to Many to meet my wife and I. It was an instant connection. It was as if we had known Lu all our life. Judy’s father had asked her to leave her portion of his investment upon his death with Lu for at least a year. My father in law passed away on July 4th 2019 being close to 101 years old. Needless to say her account has stayed with Lu ever since. Judy and I always looked forward to Lu’s call. We always had a session of small talk before moving on to business. Lu really cared about his clients. He will be missed, but never forgotten as one of those special souls you are blessed to meet in this life. May the family be blessed with comfort and peace. Judy and EJ
RIP Lu!
