Jessie Ocon, Sr., age 70, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at his home in Bryan, Texas. A memorial will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Callaway-Jones in Bryan. Service will be officiated by Pastor Jose P. Alaniz, Jr.
Jessie was born on December 17, 1953, to Tiburcio and Julia Ocon, Sr. in Bremond, Texas. He grew up working the fields with his siblings. He attended Bremond High School, Class of 1972.
Jessie met his future wife, Dora, November 1968 at a home church service in Bremond held at his family home. They were young loves, had a long distance romance, and dated for several years before being married on August 31, 1974 at First Mexican Baptist Church in Bryan, TX by Pastor Fernando Garcia.
At the time Jessie worked for the City of College Station until 1992 and then at Wickson Special Utility District where he retired from in 2013. Jessie was known at work for his skills in maneuvering the backhoe for the Water Department in all types of situations and areas, and was given the name Yoda by his co-workers because of this.
Jessie loved his Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns almost as much as he loved his family. His family was his heart. He would do anything for his wife, children, and grandkids. In his spare time, Jessie would work on his yard, spend time in his work shed (if you can name the tool, he had it), coached his kids in softball and baseball, participated in bowling leagues, and attended events with his family, loved shooting pool and playing dominoes, and watching westerns.
Jessie was a member of Sanctuary of Praise, pastored by Jose P. Alaniz, Jr. He served on the Deacon Board for many years, and as an usher and treasurer. He had a love for leading and teaching the youth to know the Lord and served as a pack leader for Royal Rangers for many years.
Jessie will be most remembered for his love for the Lord, his undying love for his family, his witt and charm, and his dedication to everything he did.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tiburcio and Julia Ocon, Sr., his in-laws, Refugio and Josephine Escobar, brothers, Marcos Ocon, Sr., Matias Ocon, Tiburicio Ocon, Jr., Louis Ocon, and Margo Ocon, sisters Claudia Fuentes, Feliciana Martinez, Delfina Torres, Irene Ocon, and Santos Ocon.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Dora Ocon, daughter, Monica Ocon, and son, Jessie Ocon, Jr. and wife, Felicia Ocon; grandchildren, Sydney Jolie Ocon, Ja’Nae Raquel Thompson, and Jacob Ray Ocon; sisters Maria Triana and Cipriana and husband, Cipriano Rueda; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone who met him.
The family would like to thank everyone for all of your prayers and kindness shown during this time.
