Born in: Fairy, Texas
Resided in: College Station , Texas

Dearly loved Patriarch, Homer Lackey, (102 yo) of College Station, Tx was called home to Christ on August 05, 2024 (his beloved wife, Doris’ birthday).

Homer was a hardworking, humble, loving and kind man with great mercy and grace towards all.  He was not known to complain. Homer was the seventh of twelve children born to Jesse Franklin Lackey and Mary Myrtle Hackett Lackey in Fairy, Tx.  The family later moved to the Ropesville, TX area. There he met the love of his life Doris Tharp.  The two eloped April 18, 1942 and were married 76 years before Doris’ death. Although he could have used an agriculture exemption, he wanted to do his part in WWII and joined the Army Air Corp where he served in the Pacific Theatre crediting God with saving his life numerous times.  Upon returning from war, Homer’s primary career became farming.  He eventually settled South-West of Muleshoe, Texas where he and one of his brothers farmed approximately 4000 acres and occasionally raised a small herd of cattle.

Homer Lackey was a true man walking with God. He was a man of faith and great generosity and remained so even when people took advantage of him. We never knew a lie to cross his lips or an unfair deal. Homer and Doris were the ones his family and others usually came to for help.  He worked hard all his life. It can honestly be said we have never known a better man. He will be dearly missed as is our mother.

Homer Lackey was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Doris Lackey, his daughter Rena Lackey, and son Dr. Gary Lackey.

Survivors include his sons Dr. Stacy H. Lackey (Reda), Jesse R. Lackey (Jan), daughter-in-law Dr. Diane Lackey, nine grandchildren; Scott Lackey, Kristin Denman (Lloyd), Ashley Murdock (Brad), Brazos Lackey (Nina), Dana DuBois, Ryan Durrett (Laura), Kendall Lackey, Callie Duckett (Montrel), Adrienne Zaskoda (Haden); 12 Great grandchildren; Evangeline DuBois, Mayvn Duckett, Nova Duckett, Braylee Murdock, Cooper Murdock, Dawson Murdock,  Piper Lackey, Kathryn Lackey, Harper Lackey, Keegan Durrett, Ellery Durrett, Cole Denman, Anna Denman.

How Homer lived is summed up in – Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, What is good. And what does the LORD require of you? But to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

The family would like to thank Century Homecare and Luminos Hospice for their compassionate care of Homer in his final days. 1. My heartfelt condolences I extend to the Lackey family in the homegoing of Homer Lackey. He was one of the finest Christian men I have ever known. Although my relationship to him was as an inlaw, he welcomed me into his beautiful family. His constant and abiding witness for our Savior and Lord encouraged and comforted me. And what a gifted story teller he was! God bless you dear family as you celebrate Homer’s life and heritage. May our great God comfort you and bring healing peace to you all.
