Jean Lindquist, 79, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020, in Bryan, Tx. We will have a public celebration of Mom’s life at a later date. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Jean was born to William Henry and Ruth Schultz Hasselbach in Toledo, Ohio, on December 6, 1940. Jean married her college sweetheart, Ed Lindquist, on November 17th, 1962, and they shared nearly 50 years of marriage before his death in 2012. During their life together Ed and Jean traveled across the country as a military family and celebrated the birth of two children, Julie and Mark.

Jean was known for her kindness and always looked for the good in others, a skill she perfected as both a military wife and a life-long educator. She was a voracious reader and could always be found with her nose in a book if the opportunity arrived, and she was known for baking Sour Cream Coffee Cakes for the entire neighborhood at Christmas. She was a member of A&M United Methodist Church in College Station and was active in Sunday School and the UMW.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed, and her parents, William and Ruth.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Julie and husband Will McCollum; her son, Mark Lindquist and wife Lydia Stuckey, of Washington DC; her grandchildren, Andy and wife Kelli McCollum, Luke, Tyler, and Maggie; her brothers, Bill and wife Jennifer Hasselbach, and John and wife Marty Hasselbach; her sister Marge and husband Lenny Erdman, close friends of many years; and other close family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School in Selma, Texas or to the Bryan ISD Educational Foundation

Guestbook

  1. Our Lord has called Jean home. He must have needed an educator. While co-teaching with Jean, I gained a friend and the sister I never had. I hope the Lord’s library is extensive because she read them all. Until we meet again.

  2. In the 70’s and 80’s, our neighborhood gatherings were more like family reunions. Oh, the stories we have to share about those planned and sometimes spontaneous events. Ed and Jeanne were strong first members of this group, and the two of them always brought food and laughter to share. When Ed passed and Jeanne moved away, the group was never the same. There was definitely a void that only they could fill. RIP Jeanne

  3. Jeanne was always such a good sport. Always ready to go out on a boat, spend time at the lake, go to festivals out of town, and out to eat at Goerke’s with neighborhood friends. She laughed freely, that’s what I will remember. We hated to see her move from Universal City, but I was so happy for her to be able to spend time with her grandchildren who she was so proud of. So thankful to Julie for bringing her to Canyon Lake when she did. Enjoy your new life Jeanne, you will be missed.

  4. Jeanne and I grew together on Delphian St., raising kids, soccer games, and having fun. We loved our antiquing trips, camping (Jeanne and I are probably the only people who drove home from the campground to take a shower and drive back to the campsite), Goerke’s, Fiesta, and curb sits. We filled out our sons’ college applications so they would be sure to go ! — and they were roommates, so we had great trips, along with the Beller’s to Nacogdoches!
We loved our ice trip to Julie and Will’s wedding. More fun.
Jeanne and Ed went with us to D’Hanis when Freddy and Deena got engaged. D’Hanis folks loved Jeanne – she was probably the only person to ever want to see the brick factory – even picked up bricks for her students.
They were always up for a new adventure. Great friends and many good memories.
    I miss them both.
