Ernest Gilmore, at the age of 84 passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024 at his home in Iola, Texas with family by his side. Ernest  was born in Osborne, Kansas on May 19, 1940 to  the late Kenneth Gilmore and Lottie Kirby Gilmore. He was raised in Kansas and later met and married the love of his life, Marilyn Gladys Ward on August 11, 1962. They later moved to Odessa, Texas where he worked in the oil field for most of his adult life running a work-over rig and later driving a mud disposal truck. He enjoyed bowling and being on leagues with his wife and always wanted to keep the highest average on the team. He loved camping and never passed up the opportunity to be at the lake when he was able to do so. He loved eating at Golden Corral and had his favorite waitress, Dawn, in which he visited several times a week. Ernest attended Martin’s Prairie Baptist Church after the passing of his wife where he was welcomed with open arms and remained a member until his passing.

 

He was very protective over his family and did an amazing job raising his children alongside his wife.

 

He is survived by his children Ronnie Gilmore, Gary Gilmore and wife Paula from Somerville, Texas, Carilyn Muzny and husband Donald from Caldwell,Texas, Ernest Gilmore II from Ohio, and Sabrina Day and husband Brad from Ruston, Louisiana, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Faye Muth-Hunt of Great Bend, Kansas.

 

Ernest is predeceased by his wife Marilyn Gilmore, his parents, his brother Bob Gilmore, and 2 grandchildren Megan Gilmore and Jeremy Gilmore.
