Doris Baker, 94, of Bryan, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 in her home. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until service time at 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 6, 2022 both at the funeral center. Interment will follow in Bryan City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

On January 29, 2022 the Lord welcomed another Angel in Heaven, Doris Marie Baker. She was born November 28, 1927 in Itasca, Texas to Robert (Bill) and Viola Ward.

Doris married her first love Herschell McCauley on July 15, 1944 after his return from WWII serving on the Battleship Texas. Herschell was killed in an industrial accident November 17, 1952. Doris then began a long career as a beautician and successful shop owner. She raised five children as a single mother. Doris married Barney Baker in 1976 and was happily married until his passing in 1999. Doris lived in her own home next to her son Robert and daughter-in-law, Betsy, along with her beloved cat Susie until she passed. She spent long happy hours watching the birds and squirrels and her beautiful flowers from her back porch. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her precious caretaker Cassandra Lloyd. And Doris was loved by all.

She is preceded in death by her husband Barney Baker; her first husband, Herschell McCauley; her parents, Robert and Viola Ward; her sons Jerry McCauley and Richard Shettle; her brother Tommy Ward; and her grandson, Dylon McCauley.

She is survived by her children, Delores Sumruld and husband, Lorell of Bryan, Texas; Jesse and wife Pat McCauley, of Somerville, Texas; Robert McCauley and wife Betsy of Bryan, Texas; her sister-in-law, Mable Ward of Bryan, Texas; her eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
