On October 31, 1958 a little boy with curly hair was born to Domingo and Anita Fonseca Sr. and they named him Domingo “Mingo” Fonseca Jr. Mingo grew up in good ol Caldwell, Texas. As a kid Mingo would work on the farm and go fishing with his dad and loved baking and cooking with his mom. During his teenage years he developed a passion for karate and was damn good at it. In high school Mingo played baseball and enjoy his weekends dancing away. Who knew Mingo’s love for baseball would turn into a passion of umpiring softball for many, many years. When he was not umpiring Mingo would enjoy deer seasons with his best friend James Brau and fishing with his little fishing buddies David and Ke’Arah Maldonado. Mingo was an incredible man that would give his last penny to help anyone who needed it and was always there when you needed him. On January 21, 2021 at 1:05 am Mingo took his last breath while holding his big brother San Juan Fonseca hand.

Mingo is preceded in death by his parents Domingo and Anita Fonseca Sr two sisters and brother in law Bisente and Guadalupe Mendez Sr and Margarita Alvarado. A niece Yolanda Lozano and a great nephew Domynnyck King Maldonado. He is survived by his two brothers and sister in law San Juan Fonseca and Antonio and Phyllis Lazano and sister Emelia Fonseca Ríos. Although Mingo didn’t have kids of his own, he loved all of his 19 nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He also leaves behind 28 great nieces and nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. And a group of umpiring men and women whom he considered family. Mingo will be missed by so many people that loved him dearly.

Rosary will be recited at 1pm, Sunday, January 24, 2021, followed by visitation until 3 pm, at the funeral center. 8. Mingo was a funny and great guy. I enjoyed the games I got to umpire with Mingo, and his infinite wisdom…

  9. Although belated, I offer heartfelt condolences to Mingo’s family. It was long ago when I knew Mingo through work and softball, but I well remember how competent and congenial he was both on the job and on the field. It was truly a pleasure to know him.
