Deidra Renee Trussell

August 14, 1964 – November 4, 2020

Deidra Renee Trussell passed away on November 4, 2020, after a brief but courageous battle against cancer. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 14, 1964, into a military family. She spent much of her childhood traveling with her parents and siblings to her father’s military assignments in Florida, Germany, Virginia, California, and North Carolina. Deidra was preceded in death by her sons, James William Trussell and Aaron Clark, and her mother, Violet Arlene Holmes.

In 1982, Deidra graduated from Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas, and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After basic training, she was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. Upon completion of her enlistment, Deidra relocated to Dallas, Texas, before returning to Bryan and eventually settling in College Station, Texas.

Deidra was a graduate of Blinn Community College and Sam Houston State University. For nearly 30 years, she worked as a senior claim’s examiner with the Social Security Administration. She was also a certified Court Appointed Special Advocate and volunteered her time to advocate for abused and neglected children.

Deidra accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Skybreak Church in College Station, Texas, for 24 years.

Deidra loved to journal, shop, watch HGTV and the Hallmark Channel. Most of all, however, she loved her daughter Ciarra. She took tremendous pride in watching Ciarra blossom into a phenomenal young woman, devoted wife, and doting mother. Her love for Ciarra was rivaled only by her love for her grandson, Tripp, who she affectionately called her “Boo Boo Bear”.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved daughter Ciarra Marcel Greer, her son-in-law Calvin Greer, Jr., grandson Calvin “Tripp” Greer III, her father, James K. Trussell, two brothers, Jeffery (Carrie) Trussell and Victor (Barbara) Trussell of Bryan, Texas; three sisters, Belinda Kay (Dave) Hartwell of Middleburg, Florida; Lutricia Trussell of College Station, Texas; Audrey Trussell of Bryan, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A celebration of Deidra’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Skybreak Church, 4010 Harvey Road, College Station, Texas. Interment will follow the service at the City of Bryan Cemetery in Bryan, Texas.

And she was truly an example of what a Christian should be even during times of trouble and joy. She loved life. But God only choses the best flowers for his garden. Praying for the family and many friends.

  10. Ciarra, I wish you and the Trussell family peace and comfort during this difficult time. Please know you all are in my thoughts and my heart.

    • Deidra was one of the kindest, sweetest and most caring person I knew. She had a beautiful smile and a caring heart. She had a calming, peaceful spirit that let you know she knew herself and she knew God. She always had her head up and her heart out, looking for opportunities to share the joy she kept in her heart. She loved, loved, loved her daughter Ciarra and was so proud of her. Deidra shared with me that Ciarra had the voice of an angel and let me listen to a recording of her singing. I was blown away by your beautiful voice Ciarra, and your mother was right, you do have the voice of an angel. Deidra and I have been friends since high school and the last time I saw her was at our 35th year class reunion. We laughed and talked and reminisced about the good old days. I’m going to miss her kindness, her friendship, her warm heart and loving spirit. You may not be here in body but you will always be here in spirit. Gone but never forgotten my friend.

    • Deidre was a person that always had a smile for every one who crossed her path she was quite very respectful to all knew her God rest your Soul you will surely be missed.

  11. I was blessed to have worked with Deidra for several years. She became part of a family that loved and cared for each other.
She shared in co- worker family, family of friends, home and community friend. We talked and shared so much over the years — up and downs; what ifs; why; how, do or do not or whatever the day brought in. She always made time for you. She had a special heart for children and those that loved our Lord. She really loved Cierra and Calvin. When her grandson arrived – oh my – there was a happy joy in her heart that all could hear. A grandchild blessing to our lovely grandmother. To Deidra’s family, I must say Deidra was loved and will be missed. I give my deepest sympathy and prayers for her family during this difficult time. I ask and pray that our Lord stands close to Deidra’s family protecting them in wisdom, health,
and faith. I thank God for allowing me to have met Deidra.

  12. You fought a good fight my friend and continued to stand on God’s word throughout. Your kind heart, your helping hands and encouraging words were such a blessing to so many of us. I miss our many talks and I also miss our phone tag moments. My family and I are thankful for and blessed by you and your friendship, which I like to call familyship. Rest In Peace Deidra. ❤️
