David Stuart Barron was born on June 26, 1956, in Bryan, Texas, the second son of John M. and Mildred Barron. David passed away at his home in Bryan, Texas, on July 26, 2021, at the age of 65 years.
He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, John M. Barron, Jr. He is survived by numerous cousins, clients, friends, and contemporaries in the legal profession.
David was born into a family of prominent attorneys. His father, John M. Barron, Sr. was a lawyer and served as District Judge in Brazos and Robertson Counties as well as a Justice on the 14th Court of Appeals. David’s lawyer grandfather, W. S. Barron, served as Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives as well as District Judge of Brazos and Robertson Counties. David’s Aunt and Uncle practiced law as well as his older brother, John M. Barron, Jr.
The Barrons were a pioneer ranching family who relocated to Brazos County, Texas from Lowndes County, Alabama, in December 1869. Barron Road in College Station was named for the Barron family and was part of their original homestead.
David was a graduate of Bryan High School in 1974 and went to college at Sam Houston State University where he obtained his degree in 1978. Following the family tradition, David graduated from Baylor Law School and passed the Bar Exam in 1981. David returned to Bryan and practiced law with his father and brother.
David went to work in the Grimes County District Attorney’s office in 1985. He successfully ran for Grimes County District Attorney in 1988 and was re-elected in 1992.
After he left Grimes County, he returned to Brazos County, Texas, to resume practicing with his older brother, John M. Barron, Jr. David was a highly skilled lawyer and was Board Certified in Criminal Law by the State Bar of Texas.
David Stuart Barron was extremely successful as a private practitioner. He was much in demand for the rest of his life. Many other attorneys would retain him to second chair them on trial cases. Some of the attorneys who utilized David’s services as co-counsel were Travis Bryan, III, Billy Carter, Philip C. Banks, Jerry Gribble, Daniel Hernandez, and many others.
David knew the law, could think on his feet, and was a skilled cross-examiner. David was always ready to mentor young lawyers and help them get established.
He was a kind, generous, funny man. David loved the combat of the courtroom without being personally offensive to his colleagues. David loved fighting to protect the rights of the accused citizens he represented and was a zealous advocate for the downtrodden.
His family would request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Salvation Army.

On July 26, 2021, the Lone Star State lost a talented attorney, and I lost a good friend, with the unexpected passing of David Barron. My sympathies are extended to his family and friends.
We send our love and prayers to the Barron family. My daughter and I will always treasure the memories we had with David. He was an exceptional man.

I remember David getting his DA position in Grimes County. I worked in the legal community there for many years. His talent and skill for the job excellent! Friend to many and an all around good guy! His wit unmatched! Rest In Peace dear friend! Tell Fultzengamenlamin hello for me!

I’m sad to hear of David’s passing. I worked with him in a play at Stage Center back in the 80’s. He was a wonderful, funny person and I enjoyed our time together in the theatrical trenches. I’m just sorry I never got to know him better.

David was my mentor and one of my two best friends for the past 23 years. He taught me how to be a good trial lawyer. We tried over 20 jury trial cases together, shared an office, traveled together, boated/fished, and just did what friends do. We planned to try another jury trial together this year, with our first trial together being back in 2001. I miss my friend. I know where he is because he placed his trust in Our Savior Jesus Christ. I know that when my time comes, I will hear Barron calling “Gribble, get in here and let me introduce you to a Man you already know”.
David was an outstanding attorney and a loyal friend. Our profession will miss his intellect, wit and zealous advocacy for his clients.
Many don’t know that David had a Godson. David and Martha are the Godparents of my son, Sheldon Johnson. You’re talking about a REMARKABLE GODFATHER…that HE WAS!!! Taking him to SO many productive activities that a little boy could only dream of. He made sure that Sheldon was studios, well-mannered and respectful at ALL times. A man that will NEVER be FORGOTTEN!!! Thank you, David, for being THE BEST GODFATHER a little boy could ever have!!! He will be TRULY MISSED!!!

I promise to never take anyone or anything too seriously and, if my birthday falls on a weekend, I’ll celebrate Friday through Sunday because that’s the rule!
There will always be love in my heart for David, and I’m so proud of the spectacular human being he was. We were supremely blessed to know him.

It was a lovely service today. I’m glad I was there to hear all the stories from David’s lawyering days, as I moved out-of-state after college and have not been back to Bryan in many, many years. There were lots of laughs, which is fitting for David. He rates up there among the five funniest people I know/knew. He was an excellent comedic actor, and I had the pleasure to get to know him through Speech and Drama at Bryan High School and Theatre at Sam Houston University. We were in many plays and skits together.
In some ways I think actors make great lawyers as they are comfortable in front of an audience and understand the drama and pathos of the courtroom. Not sure lawyers make great actors, but maybe that is true as well.
Be prepared to laugh until you cry when you were around him! There’s not many people who have that talent. His portrayal of Felix Unger in the Odd Couple was hysterical. I still hear him saying, “It’s not spaghetti, it’s ling-guin-iii!” in a high-pitched nasal voice.
Rest in peace, my friend.
