Curtis Jones
November 22, 1957 ~ March 1, 2023
Resided in:
Houston, Texas
On March 1, 2023, Curtis Jones passed away at the age of 65 in Houston Methodist Hospital in the loving arms of his wife, Sandra, and their son, Taylor. Curtis had recently returned from enjoying one of his favorite passions, off-road motorcycle riding in rural Mexico. A congenital heart defect that subsequently required extensive heart surgery became infected and compromised his big, beautiful, fun-loving heart which will be missed by all who know and love him.
Curtis was born in San Antonio, Texas to JoAnn and Clifton Jones in 1957. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1979 from Texas A&M University and married Sandra Soriano, a fellow Aggie, in 1981. Together they raised their son, Taylor, in multiple states and countries – navigating their way across the globe, for fun, adventure, volunteer work, and education during Curtis’ 38 year career with Schlumberger. His first position was Junior Service Engineer in Hobbs, New Mexico and he retired in 2016 as VP of North America Offshore & Caribbean in Houston, Texas. Along the way he was a mentor and positive influence to his many colleagues, associates and friends. Sandra and TJ traveled with him and while they had many destinations they loved, their two favorite postings were far from home – Jakarta and Paris; however, their hearts were always in Texas.
Spending time with family and friends, planning for future adventures, and traveling on any sort of motor vehicle were some of Curtis’ many passions. His favorites were boating, on-road motorcycle riding with his wife Sandra, off-road motorcycle riding with his buddies, and traveling in ‘Caracol’ – Curtis and Sandra’s beloved Storyteller adventure van. Curtis was fortunate in that he was able to retire early enough to avidly pursue his many passions.
Curtis is preceded in death by his father Charles Clifton Jones. He is survived by his wife Sandra, their son Taylor “TJ” & daughter-in-law Amy Jones, mother JoAnn Murphy and stepfather of 52 years Jim Murphy, sister Holly and her husband Larry Field, brother Greg and his wife Cori Murphy, and his many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charles Clifton Jones Endowed Scholarship at Texas A&M University would be appreciated by the family. This is a scholarship created to honor Curtis’ late father who was killed in Vietnam when Curtis was 9 years old. http://give.am/CharlesCliftonJones EndowedScholarship

Thinking of you all today, as you gather to celebrate Curtis’ life, recall the love he shared with so many, and mourn his loss. It will be difficult in the weeks and months to come, I’m sure, and please know that we are always here for you. Love Erin, Adam and kids.
