Clara is survived by her brother Bill Russell and her sister, Mary Ponder, who is a resident of Bryan-College Station, and her two sons Terry and Stephen Arterburn.
Walter was in the Navy and that caused them to live in Bellingham, Washington and San Jose, California before settling back in Ranger where they lived until 1959 when they moved to Bryan, Texas.
In 1960 Clara graduated from Bryan School of Cosmetology and although discovering she was allergic to hairspray, owned and operated 3 Successful Beauty Salons. She was a dedicated Christian with a strong faith that served her well through many hard times. She and Walter worked with young married couples at the First Baptist Church of Bryan, Texas and influenced hundreds of couples with their dedication and commitment to be there whenever any of the couples were struggling.
A service honoring her life and work will be held on what would have been her 96th Birthday, May 17 at 10 A.M. at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan.
It is said of Clara that if she is not in heaven, no one is going to be there.

To All of the Arterburn Family,
Oh how Steve & I will miss Nana. We were so blessed to spend so many happy years with her.
Peace be with each of you.
We can just imagine how happy she was to see Jesus.
I was saddened to read of Clara’s passing, but I rejoice knowing she is at peace with her Savior. My husband. Richard, and I were one
of the many young families who Clara and Walter loved on and mentored at First Baptist Bryan. I have so many memories of both of them. I seldom eat at Jose’s Mexican Restaurant in Bryan without thinking of them. We would often go there to eat Friday night back in the 1990s. In the corner of the restaurant would be Clara and Waiter with their dear friends, Mittie and Joe Conway, Koleen and Son Vick, Camille and Bill Bockmon, and Joyce and Joe McNeill. I would have to go by and get an hug from each of them. What a precious memory for me. My life and my family lives have been enriched by knowing Clara.
A wonderful and lovely friend. Clara, you are missed. I enjoyed our friendship even when we didn’t see or visit with each other. I am sorry we are unable to celebrate your life on the 17th with family and friends. Our deepest sympathy to Clara’s family.
