Charles Milton “Chuck” Payne passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022. He was 81.
Chuck was born on January 16, 1941, in Odessa, Texas, to Otis Cleburne Payne and Gladys Weaver.
He served in the United States Marine Corp. before completing his training in law enforcement at the Texas State Police Academy. He was an officer with the Texas A&M University Police Department before finally retiring in Bryan with his wife Mary after almost fifty years of service in law enforcement.
Chuck was a husband, father, and “Pops” to his grandchildren.
His love for the outdoors was obvious to those who knew him. In addition to fishing and gardening, he also enjoyed woodworking and creating art.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Myneka “Mickie” Payne-Floyd.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 59-years, Mary Alice Payne and a daughter Kimberley Dawn Meyer. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Hollie Danielle Turney, her husband Nick, a grandson, Ryan James Parker and four great grandchildren, Eric, Logan, Reid, and Evelyn Turney.
Cremation services are in the care of Callaway –Jones Funeral Center, in Bryan. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.
