In loving remembrance, the family of Bobbie Sue Walkup announce the passing of her gentle, beautiful, sweet soul to her heavenly home Sunday,September 3,2023. Visitation for Bobbie begins at 10 am Saturday, September 9th, with a service to follow at 11 am at Callaway Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas. Internment immediately to follow at Restever Memorial Park Cemetery.

The only child of George and Effie Fausett, Bobbie Sue, was born at home in the small Texas town of Mertens on March 26, 1928. She grew up in Fort Worth, her father a bookkeeper, her mother a worker in their home cleaning and cooking for borders. While attending Texas Wesleyan College in 1948, she had a blind date with an Aggie to go to a football game. She traveled by train and met her date at the depot called College Station and stayed at the MSC Hotel. Five years later, in 1953, she married that Aggie, Houston “Cleve” Walkup in Fort Worth, Texas. In the early years of their marriage, her role was the wife of an Ag teacher and mother of 3 children: Ann, Sue, and David. She obtained her Master’s in Education from North Texas and tried teaching school. Then, in 1967, the Walkup family moved to Aggieland, where she resided for 56 years untill her passing. She worked in the Registrar’s office for 22 years calculating graduate student Grade Point Ratios, loving all things Aggie, especially Aggie football.

Bobbie’s focus for several years was being a caregiver for others, first for her husband’s sister, Nina, then her mother, Effie, and finally for her husband, Cleve, until their passing. The family is grateful for her loving caregivers and friends, Carmen Cabellero and Pam Walkup. Her relationship with them brought her so much joy in her later years.
Preceding her in death are her parents, George and Effie Fausett, her husband of over 60 years, Houston “Cleve” Walkup, and recently, her granddaughter, Lee Ann Winkler.

Survivors whom she loved so very much include her three children and their spouses. Ann (Fred) Schlutt, David (Pam) Walkup, and Sue (Larry) Winkler, plus 11 surviving grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

  1. David, thank you for calling me and also sending the info about Bobbie Sue. It is
always hard to say goodby to a loved one. She had a great and full life. Be happy
she lived so long. I have lots of good memories. The picture is great reminds me
of Aunt Lillian. Take care. Love, Carolyn

    • Carolyn,

So glad that we got to take her up to Azle in 2019 and she could see how much it had grown. We went by the old neighborhood on Jarvis Lane, the old Vocational Agriculture building at the former Azle High School, the old Trammels Grocery store and then out to Boyd where she had taught school. Her biggest thrill was going by to see you and Bill, not many can say that they are from Mertens, Texas, but both of you could and seeing her enjoyment with visiting yall made the whole trip worthwhile.

  2. I am so sorry to hear this sad news about Bobbie Sue…she was always part of my family life while growing up in Hillsboro and in later life. Much love to family –

    • About 1982 I had a minor surgery at a hospital in Fort Worth. My Mom told me just last year that your Cousin Morgan (who was a Doctor in Hillsboro, TX) came to the Fort Worth hospital on the day of my surgery. My Parents were late in getting there and when they got there Morgan was already there and he asked them ” where have yall been.” He always cared for the members or our family along with the citizens of Hillsboro.

It was nice having such a compassionate Doctor in the family and someone that liked family reunions at his lake cabin and all that food from his Aunties.

  3. The Walkup family: So sorry to learn of Bobbie’s passing. She was a wonderful person and friend. Knowing and working with her at Heaton Hall was a joy. Also the visits at the house. Me and my sisters also came to her 90th
birthday and it is fun. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

  4. Dear David, Pam and Family,

This is Shana, Ms. Walkup’s mail lady for the past 6 years. Ms. Walkup was such a sweet lady. I didn’t get to know her that well since I delivered her mail in her later years but I do know she was a very sweet lady. She would always leave me goodies for every holiday and just on special occasions. I’ll definitely remember her. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I could go to her funeral but like usual, I’ll be working. Just know I’ll be with you in spirit. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Sincerely,

    Shana

  5. David, I have fond memories of Cleve and Bobby Sue coming to the farm to see MaMa and Daddy (Helen and Donald Buie). Bob and I also remember visiting when Bob was getting his Masters in Engineering there in AggieLand. I remember the laughter, the stories and the excitement Bobby would have about getting to go to a garage sale! Cleve would tell story after story about his life as an Ag teacher. David, that was 1971!
What a rich life they shared with everyone!..sending love to all of you.
