Maria Navarro, 91, of Caldwell, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Burleson St. Joseph Health Center in Caldwell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 23, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, September 24, at Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Having lived in Weslaco at a young age, Maria spent most of her life in Caldwell, having moved there more than thirty years ago. Maria was a member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church. She loved cooking, quilting, crocheting and gardening. Most of all Maria was a homemaker who loved her family and worked hard to raise them. Maria was both mom and dad to her children after her husband passed away and she made sure the family stayed close.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Isabel Navarro.
Survivors include sons, Joe Morales of Caldwell, Fidel Vela of Bryan, John Morales of Arizona; daughters, Rosie Ellis of Bryan, Sylvia Addison of Caldwell, Paula Rose of Caldwell, Felipa Tena of Caldwell; brother, Ambrosia Vela of Mexico; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
