Linnie Margie Batson

Linnie Batson, 85, of Bryan, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the St. Joseph Manor in Bryan. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2013 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Funeral Services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery in Bryan.

Linnie was born August 5, 1928 to Clifton Lawless and Ophelia (Riley) in Bryan. She is a lifetime resident of Bryan and married her loving husband, Joe “Sparky” Batson on September 4, 1948. She loved to go camping and helped with the Discovery Program for International Student Wives.

She was well known for her involvement at Central Baptist Church, where she was a member and a longtime 5th grade Sunday School teacher. Linnie enjoyed working on the Easter Pageant at the church, and also had numerous adopted Aggie Students. She always made sure to have plenty of cookies ready for the Vacation Bible Schoolers.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Charlie “Buddy” Lawless, and her parents.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Sparky Batson, of Bryan; sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and Billie Batson of Houston, Coy and Robin Batson of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and David Hogan of Bryan; and grandchildren, Keith Batson and wife Elizabeth, Emily Hogan, and Corey Batson.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at St. Joseph Manor for all the love and care they gave Linnie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Central Baptist Church at 1991 FM 158 College Station, TX 77845, Attn: Children’s Ministries.

Her three children are so blessed to have had such a wonderful mother! Not to mention those precious grandchildren who are truly blessed to call her Nana! I pray that the Lord will comfort Mr. Sparky, her faithful companion for 65 years, during this time! May all of you cling to the wonderful memories of her and treasure them in your heart!
