John Henry Turner

John H. Turner, 83, of Bryan, went to be his Lord on Friday, June 21. His family will receive guests during visiting hours on Monday, Jun24 from 12 to 2 pm, until the time of service at 2pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bryan City Cemetery with Military Honors. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory.

John was born on June 20, 1930 to Emory and Catherine (Connor) Turner in Providence, Rhode Island. John proudly served his country in the United States Army as an honor guard for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as serving for numerous funerals in Arlington National Cemetery. During his service, John met and married Joyce McDonald Turner. After they were both honorably discharged from the Army, John and Joyce moved to Bay City, Texas. John began his career with the US Postal Service for 35 years before retiring. After retirement, John worked for HEB for 15 years in Bay City and Bryan. Many remember John for his fondness of bowling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Catherine Turner; and many relatives in Rhode Island.

John will be remembered by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Turner; a son, Johnny Turner and his wife Debbie; two grandchildren, Kristin Kier and her husband Sean, and Andy Turner and his wife Emily; three great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Kier, Camryn Turner, and Kennedy Turner.
