Joe Stembridge


Joe Stembridge, 67, of Groesbeck, Texas, passed away Friday December 28, 2018. Visitation will be from 5 -7pm Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S College Ave in Bryan. His life will be honored with a celebration service at 10am Sunday December 30 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center.

Joe Stembridge was born in Bakersfield, CA on October 28, 1951 to the late Tom and Lois Johnnie Pierce Stembridge. He was raised by an uncle and aunt, Charlie and Mary Parton. Joe worked in the oilfield his entire life, and retired from Clayton Williams, Inc. after 36 years of service. He then worked as an oilfield consultant after retirement.

Joe formerly lived in Odessa and Giddings, TX and currently resided in Groesbeck, TX (Lake Limestone). Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to travel. He was hardworking, lived life to the fullest, and his family was his greatest joy.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lorene Shows Stembridge of Groesbeck; sons, Ronnie Stembridge and wife Janet of Godley, TX, and Trey York and wife Denise of New Iberia, LA; a sister, June Kimmel and husband Gayland of Odessa, TX; grandchildren, Keri Howell, Paige Jones, Kimberly Taylor, Tara York, and Brittany Stembridge; and six great-grandchildren.

He’s also survived by his three favorite sisters-in-law (Lorene’s sisters), Lourdine Panquin, LaWanna Faught, and Lynnette Williams; sister-in-law, Janice Davis (Ray’s wife); and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Henry Stembridge, Leroy Stembridge, Cecil Stembridge, Marie Stembridge, Ray Davis, and Donnie Stembridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

  12. I’ll always remember Joe for his fun loving attitude, whether it was having fun fishing in Port Mansfield or kicking everyone’s butt in pool at the end of the day. Lorene, Joe, Jason and I had a memorable trip together as we traveled in to Alpine for one of Claytie’s big birthday bashes a few years back and Joe kept us laughing all the way! We will miss you Joe Stembridge!

  20. I worked for & with Joe for over 30 years. He taught me a lot and was a dear, dear friend. My heart goes out to you and Ronnie. He will be dearly missed.

  21. When the dock light came on we always knew it was bed time for Joe. We usually followed suit soon after.

    May you rest in peace now and always know that Lorene will have whatever she needs from us.
