Gilma Maldonado Dela Rosa

September 5, 1939-April 13, 2019

Gilma Maldonado Dela Rosa, 79, of Bryan, TX, was born in San Diego, Texas on September 5, 1939 and went to join the Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2019, in what shall be Heaven’s primetime comedy special. Anyone who knew “Granny” saw the sparkle in her smile and heard that boisterous chuckle from a mile away. She was the embodiment of love, the exact definition of family – down to the beautiful legacy that follows her in passing. One of the most humble, kind-hearted souls to ever grace this earth. She took the world by storm with a silver bullet in one hand, fly swatter in the other; one thing was for certain, you never left her sight without a good story and warm smile.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Margarito and Consuelo Maldonado; a son, Israel M. DelaRosa; four sisters, Concepcion Maldonado, Emma Vidal, Elva Luera, and Estella Lara; and three brothers, Alfredo Maldonado Sr., Manuel Maldonado Sr., and Teofelo Maldonado Sr.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Nasario G. DelaRosa Sr.; 6 children: Isabel DelaRosa, Nasario M DelaRosa Jr., Macy and Heraclio Luera, Jessie and Rita DelaRosa, Amado and Chayo DelaRosa Sr., and Adelita and Martin Contreras; 19 grandchildren, 44 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great- grandchildren; and siblings, Margarito Maldonado JR. and wife, Soila ,Gilbert Maldonado Sr. and wife, Maria, Elodia Garza and husband, Reynaldo, Ruben Maldonado Sr. and wife, Rosa, all of San Diego, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 11 to 12 p.m. Monday, April 15th with the funeral service to follow at Noon in the Bluebonnet Chapel of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, 3001 S. College Ave., Bryan, TX 77801. The graveside service and burial will follow in Rest Ever Memorial Park, Bryan, TX.
