Gene Sillavan

GENE RAY SILLAVAN passed away on November 27, 2017 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with cancer in Bryan, Texas with his family by his side. He was born in Bellville, Texas on October 29, 1942 to John and Nettie Sillavan. His family moved to Houston, Texas in 1949 where he grew up and attended school. After serving his country in the United States Navy, he graduated from Sam Houston State University. Gene was an accountant for Mrs. Baird’s and the original owner of the Relief Pitcher. He returned to Bellville where he owned and operated Sillavan’s Restaurant. Upon retirement, he worked at Tesco Industries and in 2006 moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he lived the remainder of his life.

Gene is survived by his son Kenneth Ray Sillavan and his wife Sandy, granddaughter Jessy Sillavan, grandson Jake Sillavan and his wife Katy Jane and great grandson Sawyer Ray Sillavan. Gene is also survived by brother John Doud Sillavan & Shawn Rosa, and sister Nancy Sillavan Hempel and husband Curtis along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Some of Gene’s greatest joys in life were living in Puerto Vallarta after retirement and playing softball as a child and as an adult.  Most of all, he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar with his brother and son at family gatherings. Gene was an avid Astros fan and enjoyed watching them win the World Series for the first time!

While his life was cut short, there is no doubt that Gene brought truth to the adage that “It’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.” Gene will be greatly missed by many friends and family members.

He will be laid to rest with family at Oak Knoll Cemetery with only immediate family present.

Cremation services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers of Bryan College Station.

Condolences
