Merle Holmes, 89, of Bryan, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018. Family will receive friends during a visitation from 5 until 7pm Friday, January 26, 2018 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S College Ave in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 1 pm Saturday, January 27 at Central Church of Christ in Bryan. There will be a private family interment at Bullard Cemetery in Bullard, Texas. Funeral services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers of Bryan College Station, Texas.
Merle was born in Abilene, Texas on May 22, 1928. After high school, Merle attended college and business school. This equipped her for the accomplished administrative assistant that she became. She worked in Houston for years then continued her career in Bryan after moving to be near her sister. Merle was not only an assistant, she was a kind and dear friend to many.
Merle loved to read, knit, sing and write. Some writings were to encourage and others were for laughter. Merle was fun to know and easy to love and was a light to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Herman Rasco and Bertie McGlathery Rasco; her brothers, Edwin Maurice Rasco and Kenneth H. Rasco; and sister, Ethelene Buffington.Merle is survived by her daughter Linda Simmons, of Houston; sister-in-law, Marianna Rasco, of Abilene; nephews and wives, Forrest and Gayle Norman, of Alvin, Kern and Christie Rasco, of Abilene; nieces and husbands, Amy and Allen Coffey, of Argyle, Joan and Bill Allen of Witchita, KS and niece Phyllis Buffington of Bryan.
