Erik Kristoffer Grout, 37, of College Station passed away peacefully Saturday April 18,2009. A
Memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday May 12, 2009 at A-M United Methodist Church in College Station.

Erik was born in Lompoc, CA on April 5, 1972 to Ronald and Lis Grout. His early childhood was spent in Solvang, CA, Bergen, Norway, and Denmark. Later the family moved back to California followed by years in Houston and then College Station.

Erik graduated from A-M Consolidated High School in College Station. He was honorably discharged after proudly serving 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps with most of his service as a Light Armored Vehicle crewman attached to Bravo Company, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (LAR). While attached to 1st LAR, Erik participated in joint UN humanitarian operations in Somalia and Rwanda.

His awards include the Rifle Expert Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces
Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, United Nations Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Erik also completed the Networking Technologies Program at SMU School of Engineering.

In 2006, Erik graduated from the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston.

Erik had a wonderful outgoing personality and he never met a stranger. He was a loving son and brother and adored uncle. He leaves behind many friends and will be remembered as a faithful and caring buddy. His military service in Africa left lasting effects on his life and also the lives of his family. He faced the resulting complications bravely and we are proud of him in this struggle.

Survivors include his parents Ronald and Lis Grout of College Station; sister and brother in law,
Kirsten and Greg Ward of Austin and their young children Thomas and Jonathan, and extended family in Denmark and California.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to A-M United Methodist Church ‘Van Fund’. 417 University Dr. College Station, TX 77840

  7. I don’t know what to say. I am having a hard time with this. Erik was truly one of the best friends I have ever had in my life. We always greeted each other with our Marine Corps sayings…he would say ‘what’s up warrior’ and I would respond ‘not much Teufel Heuden’ We had alot of great times together; 15 years of laughter and good times or just cheering each other up and keeping in good spirits. I don’t know that I can find another friendship like the one we shared. I love him and his family as if they are my own. I will miss Erik dearly.

  8. Ron, Lis and Kirsten – I am so sorry to hear about your loss. If there is anything I can do please, please call me. Erik was such a fun and caring person. He will be greatly missed.

  9. I was devastated to hear that you lost Erik. I know it must be a very difficult time for you right now. I hope that in time your hearts are filled more with the memory of the joy and laughter Erik brought than the pain of his loss. My prayers are thoughts are with you.

  23. Erik’s 30th birthday was also my first date with Shane! Shane told me on our drive to Austin that I was about to meet some of his best friends and I soon learned why. Erik was fun, protective and honest and it didn’t take long before we developed our own bond. Every time I saw him he would put his arm around me and lean in to say ‘you understand me don’t you? You and I are just the same.’ I took that as a compliment knowing how Erik cared and wanted others to know it. I find peace knowing he can finally rest his own heart as I’ll hold his smile in mine forever. May God bless Erik and his family.

  24. I know you are Danish, but I need to end with the Irish Blessing that my mom always tells me…it’s important to me and feel it should be said about Erik!

    Erik,
May the Road Rise to Meet You.
May the Wind Always be at Your Back.
May the Sun Shine Warm Upon Your Face, The Rains Fall Soft Upon Your Fields.
And Until We Meet Again, May God Hold You In The Palm of His Hand…

  25. Erik was one of the most unique individuals I have ever called my friend. It’s been a few years, but this is a guy you never forget. His non-stop stories, impersonations, and one-liners could keep everyone in the room cracking up for hours. He was a Patriot, a gentleman, and a loyal friend. Erik, I will remember you with that signature smile on your face and a laugh in your voice. Rest in peace my friend. CC

  38. Dear Erik Kristoffer,
I think of of you often my cousin.
I came across a picture of you the other day. You visited us in Denmark in 2008 with your patents, my lovning uncle and aunt.
In the picture you were smiling. You were wearing a bright red shirt. Coulorfull.
You look happy. You had been to Strøget, the walkingstreet in Copenhagen where you had countless numbers of hotdogs and Faxe Kondi sodas. Your favorite.
    You look satisfied.
Your good mood was encouraging and your energy contagious. You were always genuinely interested in knowing how we were doing and you shared your experiences with us. You were fully present and you gave and you inspired.
You were the same way when you were little and we played for weeks together in Borup, Denmark.
You were busy all the time, came up with great ideas to play and the rest of us tried to keep up with you. It was fun.
Erik I promise you, you will be in my soul and heart till the time I draw my last breath and it is my time to leave this way of live.
I know that our souls will meet again. Love is all that matters, my dear beloved Erik,
God bless you and your dear sister Kirsten and Mother and Father,
    your cousin Ingrid

  39. Erik, it has been over 10 years since you passed and 20 years since our friendship in College Station/Austin and I still have yet to meet anyone with as much energy as you! I can still hear that voice with those funny catch phrases. I wish we could catch up as “older and wiser” men and laugh at how crazy the times were. Glad you are at peace My Friend.
