Emma Thomas

Emma Cecil Thigpen Thomas, born on July 26, 1932 in Bedias, Texas to Eddie and Inez Thigpen, passed away on May 24, 2016 in Bryan, Texas.

A private graveside service will be held at Bryan City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas.

Cecil graduated from Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Texas. She attended the Texas University one year before moving to Commerce, Texas with her husband, Charles Thomas and daughter, Patricia. She graduated from East Texas State in Commerce, Texas. Her son, Joel Thomas was born in Commerce, Texas.

In July of 1958, Cecil and her family moved to Bryan, Texas. She taught first grade in the Bryan Independent School District from 1959 to 1992. She was named outstanding teacher in 1980 and 1981. She was a kind, unselfish, and honest person who would help anyone in need. She was Loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed greatly.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia McRoberts: son, Joel Thomas: granddaughter, Lori McRoberts; and greatgrandson, Marcus Lue McRoberts IV. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Augusta Thomas who died in January 2015.

  1. Mrs. Thomas was my first grade teacher at Fannin School,I have often thought about her over the years. My condolences to her family,she was a wonderful person.
