Carl Aalund

July 14, 1933 – February 4, 2014

Carl V. Aalund, 80, of Iola, passed away Tuesday February 4, 2014 from sepsis due to cellulitis. A memorial service is planned for 12pm noon, March 29, 2014 at the Keith Civic Center in Iola Texas. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home.

Carl was born July 14, 1933 in Houston, Texas, to Anders and Esther Aalund.

He was awarded a football scholarship as a walk-on tight end in 1952 with the University of Texas Longhorns. Carl earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from UT and managed petroleum production from Texas, the North Sea, Africa, and the Persian Gulf. He became an expert in drilling technology during a 40 year career.

He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Viggo Aalund Jr., and his parents.

Carl is survived by his wife Mary Aalund, sons and daughters-in-law; Niels and Charlotte Aalund, Martin and Katherina Aalund, Chris Aalund, Gordon and Gina Aalund, daughters and sons-in-law; Carol Aalund, Karen and David Carlander, Nina and David Jarrell, his brother Leo Aalund, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please consider gifts to the Navasota Animal Shelter through which Carl found his much beloved dog Ralphy.
