Betty Lou Wright

After a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, Betty Lou (Riley) Wright, 72, of Bryan, went to be with the Lord on Thurs., June 19, 2014. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sun., June 21 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. A service to celebrate Betty’s life is planned for 2:30 p.m. on Mon., June 22 at Reliance Baptist Church, with interment to follow.

Betty was born on May 10, 1942, in Bryan, TX the daughter of Johnny Riley and Annie Lee (Saxon) Riley. She attended Bryan schools and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1960. She attended McKenzie Baldwin Business School. She was a member of the Reliance Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bryan Chapter no. 222. Betty was a bookkeeper before her retirement in 2004. She enjoyed cooking, camping and spending time with family and friends. She had a love for animals, most especially her two dogs, Itsy and Prissy. She will always be remembered for her compassion, quick wit and her beautiful smile.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Jean Sole; brother-in-laws, Billy Wright and Joseph Wright.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Jimmy Ray Wright; her children, Paula Wren and husband Troy, Lori White and husband Kevin and Jimmy Ray Wright, Jr. (Bo) and wife Meryl, all of Bryan; brother-in-laws, Bobby Wright and wife Chris and Donny Wright all of Bryan; sister-in-laws, Virginia Carver of Plantersville and Mattie Bartlett of Austin; grandchildren, Krystn Locke and husband BJ, Tara Hackworth, Kevin White, Jr., Jordan Wren, Kori White, Darcy Roulain and Joseph Wright; great-grandchildren, Brayden Hackworth, Riley Locke, Zaiden Hackworth and Laila Magee all of Bryan; and her dearest friends, Wayne and Hughleen Malone of Adkins, John and Lori Hunt of Bastrop and Paul and Joan Ayo of Slidell, LA.

The family would like to thank the staff from Traditions Health Care for their kindness and the support during Betty’s illness. A special thanks to Laurie Duke and Marcella of Traditions Health Care and Marilyn Bryant for their loving care.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. Miss Betty was such a wonderful person and we felt very fortunate for the short time we were neighbors. That short time grew into a long-lasting family friendship that will always be a blessing to our family.
