Joseph Edward Kuhn

Joseph Edward Kuhn passed peacefully from this world on May 12, 2014 just shy of his 80th birthday. A mass and celebration of his life will be held at the St. Mary’s Chapel in College Station on May 19, 2014 at 1:00pm. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory in Bryan.

He was born on August 21, 1934 on an Iowa farm less than two miles from his cherished wife of 59 years, Charlotte. Joe was raised and is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Millie Kuhn. Having seen his smiling mother in Heaven during a cardiac arrest in 2013, he knew there was a glorious place awaiting him.

Joe was also preceded by his best friend and older brother, Bill, and his two sisters, Mary Ann Goings and Helen Hites. He will assuredly provide angelic support for his surviving sisters, Dee (Don) Allen and Carol (Ron) Eckerman, and their families.

He served his country in the Korean War as a proud member of the 1st Division, “the Big Red One”, and returned to father three sons, Joe (Mollie), Mike (Theresa) and Dan (Julie). He was blessed with three daughters, Amy (Bob Goldman) Kuhn, Patty (Wayne) Kelley and Tina (Rick) Cain. In addition to his sisters and children, Joe is survived by 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, committed to a religious focus and conservative values for his children, family and friends. He held many offices and rose to the level Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree. He was instantly a friend to all who met him. Joe graduated from Iowa State University and was blessed with success as an entrepreneur in all he touched.

In addition to being an avid Aggie fan, Joe enjoyed numerous hobbies including golf, fishing, hunting and playing cards. There was seldom a copy of the daily newspaper, or any paper or napkin for that matter, that wasn’t adorned with Joe’s daily thoughts and scribbles of important notes, phone numbers or other significant information. Although he never held office, Joe proudly shared his political viewpoints with anyone who would (or would not) listen.

Throughout his lifelong journey, Joe was most proud of his children, their wonderful families and their walk together with God. He prays even now to reunite with each of them in heaven.

Donations can be made in his honor to St. Mary’s Church, 603 Church Avenue, College Station, TX 77840.

    As We Look Back

    by Unknown Author

As we look back over time
    We find ourselves wondering …..
Did we remember to thank you enough
For all you have done for us?
For all the times you were by our sides
To help and support us …..
    To celebrate our successes
    To understand our problems
    And accept our defeats?
Or for teaching us by your example,
The value of hard work, good judgment,
    Courage and integrity?
We wonder if we ever thanked you
    For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
    And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our
Gratitude enough for all the things you did,
    We’re thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.
