Jim was born July 6, 1925, in Dawson New Mexico, Colfax County. Jim and his two sisters Marion and Barbara were the pride and joy of their parents Amy Irene and Tracy C. Mitchell. Jim attended primary and secondary schools in Colfax County. After serving in the Navy, with an honorable discharge, Jim continued his education earning a degree in finance from the University of New Mexico, UNM. Upon graduation from UNM Jim accepted a full-time position within the General Motors Co. After several years of working within the finance area of GMAC Jim was promoted to Branch Manager for the College Station area where he eventually retired.

Shortly after retiring, Jim married the love of his life Gladyne Marie Mitchell and celebrated 38 wonderful years together. During the 38 years of marriage, Jim enjoyed traveling with his love, cooking, gardening and occasionally fishing. Favorite destinations included Santa Fe and Albuquerque New Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, as well as annual trips to Branson, Missouri. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren James, Amy and John Austin taking them fishing, gardening, traveling and to church-wide activities every summer.

Jim’s Christian faith, as well as his family, was very important to him. Both Jim and Gladyne were active members of A&M United Methodist Church, often assisting in the office and volunteering at the local food bank. Jim and Gladyne also enjoyed giving back to multiple organizations believing it was a blessing to give to others.
