Elora peacefully drifted into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ surrounded by her family at home, on May 16, 2009.
In honor of Elora Dale, a Celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in College Station, Texas. The Rev. Terry Tekyl and Rev. Bruce Wood will officiate.
Elora was born in Palestine, Texas, the daughter of Willis Macedonia Watkins and Corrine Elora Walker. Willis Watkins had a professional Photography studio and Corinne was a registered nurse. During the Great Depression, the Watkins were known to help those less fortunate by offering them a home cooked meal. Elora loved to read and play the violin.
Elora graduated from Texas State College for Women (TWU) with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1942. Instead of pursing a career at Johns Hopkins Hospital, she married her childhood sweetheart, Don R. Dale at the Little Chapel in the Woods, at TWU on June 1, 1942. In 1947, Don, Elora and their daughter Donna moved to College Station where they made their home. In addition to raising her children, Donna, Chris, Dixie and Debra, Elora taught elementary at A-M Consolidated Elementary School, South Knoll and College Hills where she taught her students a love of learning and life. Her students still remember her fondly. In 1969, Elora pursued a Master’s Degree in Counseling at Texas A-M University. Elora followed her passions with action

  1. Mrs. Dale was my FAVORITE teacher (3rd grade), and her influence was the reason I majored in elementary education and got my teaching certificate. I absolutely adored her! A deep sense of loss came over my heart when I learned of her passing.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time. I pray that your wonderful memories and God’s strength will sustain you in the days ahead.

  3. Mrs. Dale was my favorite elementary school teacher. I recall such fond memories of her. My wish is that every child have a ‘Mrs. Dale’ in their lives. Thanks for making me smile today!

  4. I have the most wonderful memories of Mrs. Dale. She was one of my, and many of my classmates, favorite teacher. I think we all idolized her and still do. I loved her and Mr. Dale. Now they are together. Your all are a beautiful family. God bless you. Cheri

  5. I taught with Donna at Brazos Christian School. I heard many stories she shared about her Mom. She always had upbeat, positive things to tell about her. That says a lot for her children to call her blessed! Thank God for Christian moms.

  6. Donna and family members,
My heartfelt condolences to all of you and Bless you for having a great mom. Your mom was my special and beautiful 3rd grade teacher at A-M Consolidated. I will always remember her taking me under her wings since I was a very shy little girl. Because of your mom, my name was changed to Vickie because she thought Victoria was too big of a name for my petitie body. My first Christmas at our Fairview home was delightful because Mrs. Dale gave me our homeroom Christmas tree with all of the donated gifts to be shared with my large family (Martinez). She took the time to wrapped each gift with me after school. I will always treasure this memory and this story of my childhood 1st Christmas in CST will be told and written in a upcoming book, ‘Mi Casa es Su Casa’. This book will be dedicated to my mom, Cruz Alonzo Martinez who reared 27 children.

Mrs. Dale, thank you for teaching me the word of ‘Giving’ to others at an early age. Your memory will always live forever in my heart and mind.
    Con Carino, Vickie

  7. I have great memories of Ms.Dale. My heart and prayers go out to you, the family of a wonderful person.

  8. Dear Debra, Dixie and Chris,

So sorry to hear about your mother! She was wonderfully encouraging and gracious woman to those of us who had the fortune to have known her. I will always remember her smile and how she opened her home up to your friends in such a welcoming and accepting way. My prayers are with your family in your loss as you grieve and pray that God will bring to mind many wonderful memories that will comfort you in some small way and give you peace knowing that she is with her God and Saviour! In loving memory… David Cooper

  9. Misty, I am so sorry to hear of your Grandmothers passing. I pray that our Lord God will send comfort and peace to settle over you and the family during this diffcult time. Stay strong in your faith and God will carry you through.

  10. I am thinking of all the Dale family. Such a witness to what a Christian life can be like. Donna, you know I love you and am praying for all the Moglle family. Dixie, I know this is going to be hard on you. I have been the caretaker and know what it feels like. I cannot imagine this earth without my mother. You can rest in the knowledge of your mothers strong faith and know that she is whole and at peace with God. I will be praying for all of you.(Donna, Chris, Dixie,-Debra) Nanci Bovey

  12. Donna,
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I know your mother was a very sweet lady and much loved by everyone. I’m so glad she is free of all earthly pains and troubles now. Your loss is Heaven’s gain. What a wonderful day it will be when we reunite with all of our loved ones gone on before us! My mother’s death made Heaven more real to me.
I would have liked to attend the funeral service today, but I could not get off work this week, as I had taken several days already this month. But do know you were in my thoughts and prayers.
Love and God Bless, Laurie Magee

  13. Dear Donna, Dixie, Debra, and Chris,
We were saddened to hear of Elora’s passing, because we will all miss her. Truly one of the kindest and positive christian women we know. She is now with Jesus and sitting with Don right at His feet.
I know you will miss her but will cherish her memory.

    Much love,
    Ozzie and Dianna

  14. Donna, Chris, Dixie, and Debra,

I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of one of the most wonderful ladies I’ve ever known. I can still remember after all these years the kindness and caring she showed me in the classroom and when our families got together socially. She had a way of making you feel special even though the room was full. I send my love and prayers to you and your families. Walter

  15. My most pleasant memories of elementary school are from third grade spent in Mrs. Dale’s class. Her patience and kindness stand out most in my mind. I spoke to Mrs. Dale a few years ago by telephone and was able to express my appreciation for her wonderful influence. I will miss my favorite teacher.

  16. I am so sorry that I could not be there personally to honor your mother, Elora.
I have been out of town for 2 weeks and did not recieve the information of her passing until the very day of her memorial. I did try to call , but the line was busy.
Please know that I am thinking of you all during this time.

  17. Dear Friends,
My memories of your Mother are of a lovely sweet lady. Blessings to you all. Celia

  18. My mother shared the notice of your mother’s death and the program from your celebration of her life with me. I will pass it on to Cathy as well. How lucky we were to live behind the Dales when we were young! Your mom was such a lovely person–always positive and considerate. You will surely miss her terribly. I am sorry for your loss.

If you are ever in Lake Jackson and have a bit of time, please get in touch with me. We are in the phone book under my husband’s name, Charles.
