Anna Rowe Summerlin

Anna Rowe Summerlin
February 3, 1938 – May 19, 2018

Anna Summerlin, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas. Life Tribute Celebration 2 to 4pm, Saturday, May 26, Myrtle Estate, 9742 Myrtle Drive, College Station, 77840.

She was born on February 3, 1938, to George Manning Rowe and Eloise Walker Rowe in Swansboro, North Carolina. After graduating from Aulander High School, Anna went on to Louisburg College where she became a member of Sigma Pi Alpha. There she learned her understanding of languages and life in foreign countries. Despite her dedication to academics at Louisburg, she also had the reputation of being quite a practical joker. Many friends shared stories of how she could always make someone laugh despite the stresses of studies and exams. In 1960, she earned her degree and teaching certification from Atlantic Christian College specializing in History and English. While in college, Anna met her husband of 57 years, James William Summerlin. Together they had three children, Scott, Leigh Anne, and Stephen. Anna was a dedicated and inventive mother and wife. She was actively involved with every aspect of her children’s lives including volunteering at their schools, hand sewing Halloween costumes, creating parade floats, selling concessions at Little League baseball games and even acting as Den Mother for Boy Scouts. With all this, Anna still managed to find time to enjoy a game of tennis or go two stepping with her husband at the Texas Hall of Fame. Anna and James (Bill) loved to go camping and took many family vacations with not only their children but with their beloved dogs as well. Anna was a strong supporter of agencies that provided rescue options for pets. Throughout her life, she always had a lucky rescue dog at her feet or a cat on her lap.

Anna is survived by her husband, James William Summerlin; her children, Scott and wife Suzanna Summerlin; Leigh Anne Summerlin and wife Helen Martell; Stephen Summerlin; her grandchildren, Davis, Hannah, Amanda, Julianna, Parker, Reece, Taylor, and Jordan; her brother Skip and her sister Jo Ann; and her great-grandchild soon to be born this year. Her parents and her brother, Gene Rowe, precede her in death.

Condolences

  1. Anna,

I’m always going to miss you. You are, and always have been, the true epitome of what a friend should be. Your honest and caring nature, and love for me, without judgment, will stay in my heart, forever. You set the bar high, but I will carry those traits with me, from this day forward. I won’t let you down.

I’ll always love you. We can still talk everyday and I promise..I’ll listen to you.

    ~ Cathe ~
