A faithful and generous woman, Leta Mae (Scott) Capps, 83, of Bryan, TX, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 10, 2017. She was born January 1, 1934 to Pat Wayne and Mary Katherine (Motter) Scott of Oklahoma City, OK.
A time to receive family and friends will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 4-7PM, a service to honor the life of Leta Mae Capps will be held Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 1PM at Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Center of Bryan, TX.
Leta attended Central State College of Oklahoma where she earned a Bachelors degree in education. It was during her time here that she caught the eye of her beloved husband Edward Frank Capps. The two were married June 1, 1954 in the Central University Chapel and together they shared almost 52 years of marriage. Leta and Frank were blessed with two sons, Kenneth Wayne Capps and Keith William Capps.
For many years Leta taught as a first grade teacher, her love for educating and nurturing her students was always obvious. She taught in both Bryan ISD and A&M Consolidated ISD until her retirement in 1989.
Leta was a very kind and social person, she loved to be around her family and friends. She brought a very special spontaneity to her home and always filled it with her brightness. Her love and devotion to her husband and two boys was something to be envied. Her belief in Jesus Christ was fundamental in her life, her church and the social network it provided were so very important to her. She had many life-long friendships that began at Central Christian Church and First Christian Church.
Leta was very fond of traveling. She especially loved an Alaskan Cruise and trips to Hawaii and Switzerland with Frank. She enjoyed bird watching, collecting Longaberger Baskets, and her pets. Her greatest joys however, were her two sons and the grandchildren they gave her.
Leta is preceded in death by her adored husband Edward Frank Capps.
Those left behind, missing her most, are her sons; Kenneth and wife Connie Capps, Keith and wife Jane Capps, grandchildren; Marisa and husband Marty O’Brien, Nicholas and wife Carrie Capps, Julia Capps, Stephen, Rachael, David, Michael and Benjamin Capps; great-grandchildren; Audrey, Anderson, and Madeline O’Brien, and sister; Ina Rae (Scott) Peck.
I didn’t know Kens mother but I know what a lovely person he is and I know how much Connie loved her so that tells me a very special person has left this world. my best wishes to Ken and Connie and the rest of the family. Your friend, Sharon x

God puts people in your path for a reason and I am so blessed that he put this sweet lady in my path. We worked together at Heaton Hall (longer ago than I care to remember) but to know her was to LOVE her.
I think about her every time I happen past her home…now she has a new heavenly home with her husband in heaven.

It was always a pleasure being around Ms. Leta. Such a sweet and kind little lady, and she was funny too. She had a beautiful spirit and I will truly miss her company. Rest In Peace❤️
Mrs. Capps was my first grade teacher at South Knoll Elementary School in 1973. Our class was full of extremely bright and energetic children, but I still remember Mrs. Capps as being poised and kind and professional every day. I’m so grateful for the start she gave me on my schooling! My condolences to her family; she was a wonderful woman and I was lucky to know her.
