Gilberto Mares, 60, of Bryan, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 6 to 8pm Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan. A rosary will be recited at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11am Monday, July 2, at Santa Teresa Catholic Church, with interment following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers.

Gilberto was born March 20, 1958 in Villa Union, Mexico, to Abundo and Felipa Mares. He enjoyed gardening, flea markets, and spending time at his land. He was a hard working, self employed handyman who loved his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Claudia Izzary Mares; and sisters, Maria Del Jesus Mares and Estefa Mares.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sanjuana Mares; sons, Gustabo Mares and wife Eleanor, Gilberto Mares Jr.; daughter, Mayra Mares and husband Nicholas Soto; brothers, Rosolio, Abundio, Benito Mares; sisters, Andrea, Maria, Vique, Grobiela Mares; grandchildren, Brycen Mares, Justin Soto, Isabella Soto, Alyssa Soto, Claudia Mares, Johnathan Soto, Ethan Tapia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
