Elaine Waggoner

Alma Elaine Woodlief Ivey Waggoner (Elaine), age 97, died peacefully at her home in Bryan, Texas on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 3:30 pm. She was born on April 23, 1920 in Kittrell, North Carolina to Sallie Wynne and Rufus Omega Woodlief as the second of seven children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, one brother and two husbands, Frank Martin Ivey (Frank) in 1979 and Norman Kincaid Waggoner (Norm) in 2007.

She is survived by one sister, Fayma Roberts of Durham, North Carolina, one brother, RO Woodlief, Jr., of Henderson, North Carolina, two sons, Frank Martin Ivey, Jr. MD (Marty) of Galveston, Texas and John Douglas Ivey (Doug) of Marble Falls, Texas, four grandchildren, Frank Douglas Ivey (Douglas) of San Francisco, California, William Cuberley Ivey (Bill) of Austin, Texas, Austin Douglas Ivey (Austin) of Austin, Texas, Ashley Elizabeth Reinhardt (Ashley) of Austin, Texas, seven great grandchildren Leo Luca Ivey, Ames Douglas Ivey, Charlotte Elizabeth Ivey, Theodore Douglas Ivey, Sybil Clare Ivey, Jet Douglas Reinhardt and Saylor Elizabeth Reinhardt and many nieces and nephews.

Elaine attended Lander College in Greenwood, South Carolina (a private Methodist school for women) graduating in 1941 with an English major and a lifelong desire to teach and inspire others to pursue higher education. She was a faithful member of the A&M United Methodist Church for over 40 years and enjoyed the Bryan/College Station dinner dance club circle well into her eighties.

A memorial service celebrating Elaine’s life will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at the A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, Texas with the Reverend Preston Greenwaldt presiding. A reception for friends and family will be held in the church fellowship hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the charity of your choice in Elaine’s memory.

A special note of thanks goes to Elaine’s caretakers, Sandra Stifflemire, Donna Ray, MaNeisha Ray, PeTrecia Ray, Reisha Ray and Amethyst Williams of Bryan, Texas.

Cremation services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers of Bryan College Station, Texas.

  1. Elaine was a very precious sweet lady. She was a client at our Edward Jones office for many years when I worked with Dave Skinner. I ALWAYS enjoyed visiting with Elaine.
