Dorothy Mae Jacobs Ponton, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed from this world Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 at the age of 87.  Dorothy was born to Luther and Lillie (Klimitcek) Jacobs on September 18, 1930 near Hallettsville, Texas.  After graduation from Hallettsville High School, Dorothy married William “Carl” Ponton.  They met on a blind date to a Donkey Baseball game and quickly fell in love.  After they were married Carl and Dorothy moved to Clute, Texas and raised a family of three children.  Their marriage endured for 69 years.  Dorothy’s happiest times were spent with her family.  She cared for others in many capacities from sister, to wife, to mother, to grandmother.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William “Carl” Ponton, parents and four siblings, brothers Feye and Bill Jacobs and sisters Gladys Jacobs and Vera Knight.  Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Barbara Ponton; son Jimmie Ponton; daughter and son-in-law Carla and Greg Wall; four grandchildren Lyle and Chad Ponton; Holly and husband Charlie Thacker; David and wife Hannah Wall; and one great-grandson.

A visitation honoring Dorothy will be held at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center on Tuesday Sept. 4, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 PM.  Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018 at Salem Cemetery in Ezzell, Texas.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Linda, Debbie and all the employees at Park Place Assisted Living who created a loving home for Dorothy these last 4 ½ years.
