Dorothea Lorraine Petty, 89, passed away March 26, 2018 at her home in College Station, TX. A private inurment will be held at the Houston National Cemetery.

The youngest of 5 children, she was born in Paris, Tennessee on March 5, 1929 to Sophia K.  and Emil E. Horobetz. Anyone who knew Dorothea, knew her to be friendly, funny and wildly opinionated. Dorothea enjoyed gardening, arts & crafts, and especially family time. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain guests. Dorothea was well traveled and had many stories to tell. She loved to joke and pull pranks on the unsuspecting. She had a great sense of humor and her laugh was contagious. We are going to miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert Ray Petty and her son Finner D Whitman III.   She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Brown of Brandon, MS; five grandchildren: Josh (Lisa), Jacob (April), Sarah, Erin, and Finner; 4 great-grandchildren: Hannah, Savannah, Leannah, and Oliver; 3 nephews and 2 nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Traditions Hospice, 1862 Rock Prairie Road, Suite 202, College Station, TX 77845 or to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Attn: CONTRIBUTIONS, One Intrepid Square, W 46th Street & 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036.

Dorothea’s family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Comfort Keepers and Traditions Hospice for their devotion, support, and loving care.
