Obituary for Homer Adams

Homer B. Adams of College Station passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17 just ten days after his 90th birthday. A celebration of his life will take place at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Thursday, January 24, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Adams was originally from Wolcottville, Indiana and moved to Dallas in his early teens. He excelled in basketball while at Sunset High before attending Texas A&M (Class of ’45) and playing basketball for the Aggies. As many others of his time, school was interrupted by World War II and he joined the Army Air Corps where he was a bombardier flying in B-24s over Germany. Upon his return from the war, Adams re-joined the basketball team at A&M and was captain his senior year. He earned his degree in Accounting.
Mr. Adams spent the majority of his career in business where he owned an insurance agency and also Adams Transfer & Storage Co. in College Station and Conroe. He had a stint in between as Postmaster of the College Station Post Office. He also served three terms as a College Station city councilman in the 60s and 70s. He was one of the very few republicans in Brazos County in the 50s, 60s and 70s and attended the Republican National Convention in the Eisenhower years.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his father and mother, his wife Jackie, and a son Bob Adams.
He is survived by two daughters, Pam Brown and husband Jim of Weatherford, TX and Marj Henderson and husband Tom of Starkville, MS; a son, Jack Adams of College Station; best friend, Peggie Payne of Bryan; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons: Heath Brown, Brandon Brown, Matt Brown, Bobby Adams, Larry Adams, Grady Adams and Charlie Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund has been established and memorials may be made to: The Association of Former Students, 505 George Bush Dr., College Station, TX, 77840, Homer Adams ’45 Memorial Scholarship.
